In real terms, I'm going to suggest something a little left field... immortal

Oh. My God.

I watched this (Immortel Ad Vitem) yesterday. After a start which had a gimmer of hope and some very cool concepts, it then spiralled into a hilariously bad suckathon with some appalling dialogue with I actually think would give The Room a run for it's money.

The mix of CGI actors and real actors was especially amusing, and I must admit that I didn't mind it were it not for what they said and did.

However I am glad I watched it. :D

A Serbian Film
Antichrist
The Human Centipede

AntiChrist, ok...its actually a good (imo) movie that takes itself seriously. More like a (very brutal) play in its' scale.

...but A Serbian Film and The Human Centipede are hardly in the same realistic scope of the OP. They are shockers (as in, by design), pure and simple.

Some brilliant suggestions so far - great work guys. Seen a lot of them but not all - Eden Lake looks good - I always just assumed it was some schlock horror but obv not?
Finally saw The Number 23 a few months ago. Jim Carey in serious role shocker and pretty good.
Dead Mans Shoes prob my fav of the others listed. Love Paddy Contantines accent and comes accross as a brilliant (and undertandably why) complete loon.
Nice soundtrack too.

edit - just checked the Eden Lake trailer. Didn't even realise it was a British film. Looks interesting.

Oldie but if you have never seen it...Scum - Early Ray Winstone but superb and very gritty. Also for another oldie, I recommend Kes.

-Memento
-Inception
-Source Code
-Frailty
-The Butterfly Effect
-The Game
- Black Swan
- Machinist
-Triangle
-Identity
-The Crying Game
-Some Morgan Freeman film or maybe it was Denzel Washington which I can't remember the name of involving a time machine to go back in time to look to clues to solve a murder. Not Fallen, but then that's another possibility.
-Bone Collector
