It was backwards before Europeans arrived. There were a couple of relatively sophisticated kingdoms, but they were still archaic by the standards of early European explorers. The few lights of civilization in that benighted continent were lit by Europeans, and it's from there that we'll see civilization grow. It's not our historical interaction which is the problem, it's our modern interaction.

The best thing we can do is let them get on with it. If you look at the movers and shakers of Western history, you'll often find they were pretty awful people who ruled with an iron fist. If we had an equivalent of 'the West' to interfere with our development back then, we'd probably not have got anywhere. Cromwell, Napoleon, Victoria, Caesar: They'd all have ended up in front of the Hague for war crimes.

Let me guess, trying to change the direction? Did I say they do value life?

Your remark was about third world countries not valuing life, this is only worth saying if by comparison the west does value life, or it wouldn't be worth saying.

I'm saying, by and large the west is run/owned by people who don't place value on peoples lives except their own either. The world, not just the third world, is corrupt and full of people looking to exploit other people.

This man is as nasty as they come, kidnapping girls to sell off, but he values life precisely as much as our governments who send troops in, many of whom die, to kill 10's of thousands of people in other countries for financial motivations, who actively lied to generate a supposedly moral reasons for starting such a war/invasion.

I wasn't defending or saying Africa is misunderstood and so is this kidnapping, I presume rapist murdering **** of a man. I'm just saying, the west is FULL of people like him using different tools and different means but still just exploiting the people they can exploit for profit.

This thread is full of people who are saying "over there", "third world" and these threads are usually full of the remarks "backwards", "dark ages". As if, the rest of the world doesn't do the same things.

Well there we go. God has said it so it must be so. Although granted, didn't the last prophet kinda have a clause whereby he stated that he was the last prophet and none will come after him and everything he said is true? Honest sir it is. God told me so himself.
 
I can't take a militant group seriously whose name makes me hum 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' whenever I see them in the news.

you mean aside from their own laws that require them to donate so much every year + foreign agreements that require them to donate so much every year?

food/medical aid is one thing, but remember in Africa most conflicts are ethnic, giving military aid to either side means inevitably your guns will be on the 6 o'clock news taking part in a racially motivated genocide of women and children.

i'm curious when we killed these tens of thousands? most of the deaths in the two Wars i assume you're talking about were killed by their own people. we've killed relatively few out of the total deaths.

if you have figures for the total US army/British/Canadian forces kill counts i'd like to see them.
 
Such a shame that the UK offered them help on the very first day this hit the news (April 14th), and is still offering help today... but nope, they don't want our help.

Oh and out of interest, I had a quick google. The UK gave Nigeria £268million in Foreign Aid last year - let's hope some of it was actually spent on Police!
