So like the title says which one to choose? I have been looking at cards for a while and I have not been able to make my decision. I was initially going to buy one because I was looking at Bf4 but then ARMA 3 peaked my interest so I fo that.

Problem is that from what I have read the 770 would be better than the 280x due to Phys x being GPU to save on the CPU. But the reason the 280x was going to be my choice was because of the Vram:confused:

The cost of the 4gb 770 is really putting me off with the 2gb and 280x being around the price i'd be looking to spend.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my Itch is growing but I can't justify the cost but would be willing to save some more if the 4gb is the far better option long term

i got 4 gig , from competitor end of last summer for around 280£ sold games worked out around 250 £, i would not go with 2 gig , if 280x is cheaper then 4 gig 770 go for it.

I wouldn't worry about the memory unless you're modding the hell out of something like Skyrim. Just get what's better placed within your budget.

About £280 for a 770 4GB, or £360 for a 780 3GB.

Does that stretch you too much ?
Lol the £280 for the 774GB is going to be a long stretch with me probably having to cook dinner for the wife and kids for the next couple of months to get the go ahead

If it's of any help, I went from an GTX570 and upgraded to an overclocked 7970 (same as a 280X), and am very happy with the boost in fps.

You also get Watchdogs free, so you could sell that on if its not your cup of tea (when released) and make a few £ back.

If she loves you she would support you lol.

you can get 280x for around 199£~220£ just go for the cheapest one tbh .

chech B grade you can get 290 for 250 £ , and 280x for 199 £ , you can also look around second hand.

It's my understanding that Arma 3 is very CPU intensive rather than being demanding on the GPUs, however I'd imagine your i5-2500K should cope fine with it. My advice is to look up some benchmarks online of Arma 3 performance across different GPUs in your budget range that you are considering and decide from there :)

Are you talking from experience? Why would it be "much" better for Arma 3?

Im not fussed on brand loyalty I just want the best card for my Budget/future proof/Arma 3 currently

Because the 770 is choked by its 256bit memory bus, which means you'll already need to turn settings down compared to a card with a faster bus. Getting the 4GB card would only alleviate the memory quantity issue, but the memory bus one will still be there.

770s have little longevity in them, and you would have to start turning settings down more, and sooner than you would with a 280X, as 770s are already having their memory busses saturated by games.

That's not to mention the fact that a 770 is at least 20% more expensive for less performance, and the 280X tends to overclock quite well, whereas 770s are pretty much on the limit due to already being overclocked 680s, less memory and less memory bandwidth.

Hi there :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x **B Grade** HIS Radeon R9 290 Boost 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express G (GX-086-HS) £259.99
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 OC WindForce 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (GV (GX-133-GI) £259.99
Total : £529.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

90 day warranty and possible manufacturer warranty depending on manufacturer. These are nothing short of a steal if your PSU has the metal, what is it?
Not too keen on the B grade route as I am generally unlucky and don't want to risk the lack of warranty
