Hoping you guys can provide advice on someone trying to reset my eBay password. It's really the first time one of my internet accounts had an attempted hack, feel like I've lost my virginity :)

I just got an email from eBay with the password reset link, the email looks kosher and it's sent from [email protected]. I immediately changed both my password and secret question details.

What else can I do? I guess there ain't much more besides changing passwords, is it worth mentioning to eBay? I've got the IP address of where the request was made and doesn't match our households.

Any other comments welcome.

well if you had a key logger on that machine.. Grats you just lost your account.

Other than that id say you were safe. Probably just some russian jerk off running email adresses via a login/change pw

If you log into your account under messages they normally have copies of emails they send you under there.

How did you get to ebay.co.uk? Did the email give you a link to click?

Could it possibly have been someone mis-typing their own email instead?

For example one of my emails is smiffy15@ so smiffy16 might have mistyped when trying to reset their account

Even if it was a phishing email it wouldn't matter then :)

Just out of pure interest does the same email appear in "messages" on the eBay account?

Just checked, no it doesn't... only message is the one from eBay confirming I've changed my password.

If it was a phishing email how did they get my email address? I've got one item for sale and can't see my email visible.

No idea. To be honest with how big ebay is you could probably send an email to a random email account and find someone with an eBay account.

Might find another service you've signed up to has sold on your details.

Just checked myself and password resets don't appear in ebay messages. Probably legit.
