Show us your living room (pics)

SDK...those sofas are amazing...I love that purple colour!
My partner chose the colour, I probably would have gone for boring black or white.

, hardly anyone seems to have any media on display.
All of our media is on two hard drives behind the TV :)
I got fed up with discs lying everywhere and my 2 year old son scratched them so much they never worked anyway.

Even when ours is 'tidy' i.e. all kids toys put away, tables clear etc there are still all the dvds/cds/games/books/random nonsense sitting in units. That was the real thing that jumped out at me, hardly anyone seems to have any media on display. And to be fair when I think about it, 90%+ of our dvds/cds probably go months without being used so one could argue they may as well be stored out the way somewhere.

I don't really have many DVDs and the ones I do have are on a shelf to the right of that photo, I've got maybe 10-15? The rest is all on a NAS in the house streamed through the HTPC you see in the photo (blue ring)

some nice rooms here so far!

Here's our current front room. Our house is rented at the moment so we can't really do anything with it which has been very frustrating. I did hang the panels on the wall but they are hung on nailed in picture hooks to cause the leave amount of damage that I'll have to fix when we move out. We're buying a house at the moment and can't wait to make it our own and give the boys' somewhere proper to live :D
The room is about 8 meters long so this is just half of it, the other half is 3 walls of desks and computers [and mess]

Sofa is harvey's Bel-Air
carpet is 'landlords choice nylon/needle blend' with no underlay - it's like having lino! horrid!
rug is Ralph, he was a reindeer from Norway :)

here it is running in full ASBO mode:

Looking forward to posting again in our new place!

Interesting how similar Siliconslave/HeX's were in terms of layout.
My favourite is probably krooton but possibly influenced by the lighting.
I feel a new thread on de-cluttering coming on... it feels like a couple of days after we have a good tidy/clear up we are swamped again (not just living room - kitchen table/work surfaces get full, bedroom becomes a mess, dining room/office become dumping grounds etc) and basically there is very little of the house we are proud to show visitors with (ironically) the possibly exception of the nursery.

Most are devoid of any personality. It's just buy the biggest tv you can afford and arrange some furniture so everyone can view the TV.

Only rooms not devoid of personality are Robbie G, SDK (purple sofas..AWESOME) and Phate (the MnM cushions saved you).

Heh, it's funny that. I know you didn't point at anyone in particular, and I'm not having a go... But my room actually defines most of my personality as much as it can without work I'm not allowed to do. I'm crazy about sound - positioning is everything. our front room freaks people out because it's such a waste of useful space because it's set up to accommodate our personality's preference of watching films and listening to music in the best and most correct way possible within our means. I think every room has personality - it can't not; But sometimes see statement sofas and furnishings as a kind of 'bought personality' sometimes. Interesting view though; do you have a tiny telly or something? :p

Already put a offer on a house, still waiting on bank to reply to my mortgage, this apartment is a tad small now for all my gear.

Do you not find the speakers distracting, they seem too big for the t.v (imo).

No not at all. It's all quite in proportion really, the lens just exaggerates it a bit. Everything I've been buying is a medium/long term investment for a dedicated room in a house we own, which will have a much much bigger screen :) speakers are primarily setup for stereo music listening to, but all of the rest of the necessary bits are there for a very good movie experience too. TV is 50" if it helps place/scale it better. That part of the room is 4.1m wide.

It definitely does all dominate the room completely but that's fine with me haha! it's a bit better with the grilles on though and they usually are on. I see a lot of expensive gear not given the positioning it needs and that makes me sad, but realise everyone has to meet different needs (like the ability to have more than one guest)

Haha, thanks!

It's a little bit different now (that was taken 3 years ago), my pc screen is 27", to the right of the window there is a dark book-case, and there is a pair of Microlab SOLO6C speakers on the stand under the tv (much better sound).

Won't last though as I will be moving out around the end of the month.

This. My youngest just liked to empty off the DVD/Bluray shelves and open all the boxes. Soon as you put them back he'd have to climb up and take them down again. Swiftly got boring, so everything got converted and dumped on a big HDD.

Much easier :D

Story of my life! That picture I posted was from when we were putting it up for sale, it's the tidiest it's ever looked :D Usually it's a battleground of toys, kids school bags, dumped clothes, etc etc. A good tidy up usually lasts about a day if you're lucky :o
