Hi guys,

I found a car on Autotrader which seems like a good deal. I've been emailing the seller and i'm a little concerned.

In short he has moved to the USA for a few years and left the car with a holding company (link below)

http://ksllogistics.co.uk/howitworks.html

The website seems informative but dated.

Apparently, i pay 20% deposit and get given the car and paperwork to fully check over the vehicle for 3 days. Then decide if i want to keep or return.

All email correspondence has been friendly, helpful and informative.

What would you do?

Cheers

Adam

They take payment and manage the whole transaction.

If the company have the car then don't pay the deposit until you have seen it and the keys are on the desk in front of you - I can't see how they would reasonably have a snag with that if the car is actually in their possession. Make sure you read the paperwork fully and that there's no random snags such as the 'refundable' deposit being subject to a 95% admin fee or something daft it you want it back. I can see how this might be legit *if* they do in fact already have the car and they are reasonable people.

If however you're meant to pay the deposit, then a random african freight company ships the car to KSL logistics, steer well clear.

No chance.

On the off chance it's genuine you may just need to spend a little longer looking for the right car - if (more likely) it's a scam you'll have saved yourself some money and grief

i've been emailing them and they seem to me legitimate. What does it say on duedil?

I also have the option of visiting myself in their storage which will be less risky but a much longer journey for me.

i've suggested paying deposit on delivery

Apparently they have the car and had it mechanically and fraud checked.

RECENT EMAIL FROM THEM

There are no additional fee’s as the seller has already paid for our services.
The inspection has been performed by our mechanics.
Our inspection is almost like any other authorized inspection.
Our mechanics verified :
-Body exterior
-Engine compartment
-Electrical/controls
-Interior luggage compartment
-Front suspension and steering
-Clutch/transmission
-Rear suspension and under frame
-Wheels and tires
-Exhaust system
-Fuel system
-Brakes
-Road test

Also, our Fraud Department verified the documents and everything is in order.
All the documents are in order and match the seller's ID and the car.
I will send you a list will all the documents that we have in our custody :

-Both original remote keys plus the master key
-Original delivery report
- V5C document
-Stamped service book and associated service invoices
-Complete owners pack with all manuals
-MOT certificate
-Bill of sale signed by the seller
-Copy of the seller's ID

We will allow 3 days inspection after delivery ( it's enough to make your own inspection )
We also offer full insurance for the inspection period so you will not have to do another one.
If it's anything else I can help you with, please feel free to ask,

A couple of typos - but nothing serious. Though I'm still not satisfied enough to give them my deposit.

I understand you are concerned, but honestly it is not the case. Our company operates since 2000 and we didn’t have any complains.
We are a courier company and we reduce the potential risk of fraud by acting as a trusted third party that collects, holds and disburses funds protecting both the buyer and the seller.
You will find all the information you need regarding our company by visiting our website.
Our website address is www.ksllogistics.co.uk (as you can also see from my e-mail signature).
You can also verify us on the Companies House website ( http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk ) using our name or our registration number ( 04081767 )
We are not a "ghost" company and you can easily verify that we have never been involved in any fraudulent activities and we will not begin now.
Unfortunately, the minimum deposit for delivery procedure is 20% of the item price.
We cannot agree to deliver you the vehicle without sending a security deposit as we will violate the our company policy.
We apologies but we must work after these regulations. The deposit is fully refundable. This is just a security measure that we take for this type of transactions.
Here are some situations where an immediate refund will be sent to the Buyer:
- The vehicle doesn't accord to its listed description
- Paying for the vehicle and not receiving it;
- Paying for the vehicle and receiving a stolen one;
- Paying for the vehicle and receiving it with undisclosed damage;
- Paying for the vehicle and receiving it with any kind of debts or outstanding finance;
- Receiving a V5 that is not signed, is improperly assigned, or receiving a V5 but not being able to register the vehicle.

After we receive your details we will issue the invoice for deposit and send you further details.
You can pay for the deposit using a bank transfer, electronic transfer or CHAPS payment.

This is clearly a scam, how on earth can you consider this legit?

Anyway, what is the car, surely there are man other examples around that you can purchase form an actual seller!

Nothing they have provided you relates to the vehicle, it's just "we have checked x, y and z".

This screams a scam, your gut feeling is normally correct. What car is this for? Is it a valuable or rare car? Why put yourself through this if it's a common car?

Have you actually spoken to anyone?

What's the car and price?

It all sounds rather fishy to me so I'd personally just find another car being sold normally.

deposit on credit card? if anything happens then you just shout at the CC company to get you monies back :) but that writing is even worse than mine!!!

lol - loving your responses. It is a great deal if it's genuine. But my guy is telling me to be careful.

It's a Ford S-Max Titanium X 2.2 PS- 2011 with low mileage and all the extras for £13k.

That's a VERY common car to be honest and there are loads for around £10k with sub 100k on them and for sub 40k you're looking at 13k so it seems to me like this is a waste of time and you might as well just find one that's being sold normally. This may not be a scam but it isn't worth the hassle given how common they are.

If it's too good to be true then it is.

How can you take anything written by that company or someone working for them (the scammer) seriously. I could setup the same thing and tell you the same stuff in better English, would you suddenly want to send me money?

It's an S-Max not a McLaren F1, go find one of the many other legitimate ones on Autotrader or Pistonheads.

:)
