Greets folks,

So my GTX580 GDDR5 1538mb PNY card died a month back just 2 months after warranty and after several attempts and repairing and reseating components it is deader than ever :(

I am now looking for a replacement of at least equal performance and woefully out of the loop on hardware stats thesedays since I no longer work in the industry, so I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions! The only other criteria would be for an Nvidia card again and on a budget of upto £300ish.

Many thanks in advance <3!

Hey there :)

Currently running an i7-2600k @3.4ghz (Sandybridge), Mbo is an Asus Maximus IV Extreme-z, memory is Corsair 2x4gb ddr3 1600 and the abysmal stand-in for the previous card is a 9800GT!

What is your budget?

I would recommend getting a decent CPU cooler to overclock that 2600k to 4.5ghz+ and depending on your budget, 280x/290/290x or a 780!

The AMD 270x Nvidia GTX760 should be around the same, if not a little faster than the GTX580. Both are around £150-£180.

If you want to get a bit more bump in performance, then go for either the AMD 280 or 280x at a little higher cost.

280/280X isn't Nvidia :(

I'd be looking for a used 780 at that price for Nvidia

As in the first post: upto £300 :)

The current cooler for the CPU is a Corsair Hydro H80, though im not a huge fan (hurr hurr) of overclocking due to risks, but then the last time I was doing that was a good 10 years ago!

@Mike: I am indeed :) though only at 1920x1080

@Marine: Mmm, I was already leaning towards a 770, is that a noticeable step up from the 760 for the expense?

well personaly i am at a stage that i consider the amount of memory the card has, 2Go seem low.
but you are on a budget, 760 and 770 both wont max setting while providing smooth fps, both have 2Go, so my personal opinion would be to take 760 now ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-206-MS )
and put the extra money aside for next month till you save up another 50 then buy another 760 to sli, performance wise this is the best value i see.
if your mobo doesnt allow sli, then go for 770
this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-202-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1750
or this one if your case is big enough http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-115-GI&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1750
you can also try to find 2nd hand 780

if somehow AMD isnt a deal breaker for you i would still go for trix 290 that's where i see best value, card need space like gigabyte one if the case is compatible

Oh that Giga looks tempting, I have a Corsair 650d mid-tower case, which I presume is fine for it sizewise. How does Windforce work out? I notice its not got much of a vent on the rear, does it just shunt it into the case itself?
