Hello to all,

Im sure you get many post like this asking for advice.
But after looking at many sites last night i feel i need a little help from a well know site.

Im upgrading my: Motherboard, memory, CPU & (cooler) and maybe a case.

I have £550 maybe £600max,

I have filtered down to two sites to look at, Yours and **** for mother board bundles,

Regarding cpu's and looking at many reviews on them ( amd's i5 i7) the i5 and i7 seam to be best overall, ( i maybe wrong)

Memory i would like 8 – 16 gig ddr3,

Motherboards just seam a mine field to me, i would like to do some overclocking but im not a fanatic. I would like 5 sata ports and as many other features as possible.

I have at the moment.
Core 2 quad Q6600 @ 2700.6 MHz
asrock P43DE mobo
8 gig ddr2 mem
750 w power sup.

Any advice would be really helpful i surf the web and play games and the best settings i can.

Thank you for your time.
Keith

Hi,

As you can see your attempt at mentioning a competitor has been starred out, this is part of the forum filter and is also mentioned within the FAQ's about competitors and their prices.

Moving on,

What PSU do you have, can you tell me the make an model.
Are all your drives (HDD and optical) all SATA?
You mention gaming yet dont say what GFX card you have.

In a few days time Z97 is released, this is a new chipset that supports cutrent Haswell CPU's (i5+i7) and also future CPU releases so worth just waiting a bit longer for.

You're not thinking about upgrading your gpu? I would do as everyone above has recommended. Sit tight and look at the lay of the land once the new technologies have been released. If you're gaming and absolutely can't wait to upgrade, get a new gpu for the most immediate impact.

Like has been said above.

Itd be helpful if you could fill us in on some details:

  • What PSU do you have, Make/Model?
  • What GPU do you have?
  • Are all your drive SATA?
  • What case have you got/are you looking at?

As also said, its worth waiting a few more days til the Haswell refresh is released. But we can still give you an idea of what to expect price-wise.

Thank you for the fast response,

My Graphics card is a HD 7850 sapphire 2 gig
cit 750w atx
Yes all Hdd drives are sata wd drives,
I have 1 standard dvd/writer drive that is Ide

my case is a antec 900

Hope i have left nothing out.

The PSU needs to be binned.

It is a cheap unit and probably more than likely cant deliver its rated power on the important 12v rail.

Keep the case unless you really want to change it and just buy a CPU/Board/RAM and PSU.

Thank you for the help .

I have been looking all week at this and that and its a mine field to me,
I have come up with this option.

ReLoad Configurable Micro ATX Gaming Bundle - MSI Z87 - Intel Core i5 4670K @ 4.2GHz With a upgrade on TeamGroup Vulcan RED 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit

Aerocool Strike-X 800W '80 Plus Silver' Modular Power Supply £79

AeroCool Sixth Element Full Tower Case - Black/Blue £35 (can leave out)

OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £10

Total cost £572 inc pap

Now some did say maybe a GPU also now on that side of things im getting very lost.

Thank you for your time.

That PSU is not very good. You will only need a 500W for your current graphics card. I would suggest looking at the Superflower Golden green 550W

YOUR BASKET
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £49.99
Total : £59.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Also if you are just gaming then 8GB ram is plenty. Also the 7850 graphics card is still very capable so if it isn't struggling then keep hold of it for now.
