Bought this from OCUK a few weeks back, took me a week before i was able to test it, and it simply wouldnt post.

I had a 750W PSU in there, tried an 800w which had just become free (before seeing the Min requirements were 500w) but that had no effect.

I asked a mate to give it a try overnight, a week later with a different mate trying it and it working fine, i got it back. I tried it in my server (i3 Z87/H87 cant remember!) which i hadnt considered as i'd been thinking power/wattage, and it works in there.

So, i tried the 600w Corsair PSU on my machine. Nope
Tried its DDR3 1600mhz RAM in my machine. Nope
Updated the bios. Nope (killed my OS though!)

So im left with 2 items in the machine which i havent removed, the mobo & CPU. Obviously it isnt going to be the CPU (i5 2500K) and i really dont see why it'd be the Mobo (P67).
While all of this is going on, the 270X fires up every time.

Can someone shed some light on possible issues, see if i can get the damn thing to work? Its almost 3wks now, so i cant even return it to OCUK for a refund, and for all intended purposes its £400 down the toilet until it powers up.

It shouldnt matter, but its the MSI 290X: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-238-MS
8+6 pin, ive tried their 6-to-8 pin adapter and the PSU's which have 8-pin ive tried with & without adapter.

I really dont want to have to buy a 1155 mobo when it appears to be working perfectly fine if my 270X is anything to go by, and dont need a CPU upgrade.

Try updating your mobo to the latest bios and try flicking the bios switch on the card to position 2.

The bios, from what i can tell, is the latest.

I went with v1.19, above that it talks about only updating if you're using IvyBridge, and im Sandy. Unless this is something different its talking about? I'd never updated the bios before so didnt fancy doing something i didnt know how to undo, if i ended up in a position they're warning against.

You'll be ok,it just supports ivybridge CPU aswell as yours, both chips should run fine

I would flash to latest BIOS,read up on how to do it usually you extract BIOS to Usb stick and update it from within the motherboards BIOS

Just done it, and im still here so thats something (and i wish the version i installed yesterday was as simple, bloody dos disks n junk!).
Will go power down and see what the 290X says

ITS ALIIIIVE!! :D
Finally. Thanks for the help guys, i've had 2wks of PC frustrations and everything feeling like its going against me (installed 7 OS's in first week, on 2 machines, then lost everything when it was starting to feel like home again) and finally things are starting to look up.
