Best Graphics Cards For The Money: May 2014

:( Dont assume hes lying i dont see why he would its good to get experiences from users that have had both cards

Look at benchmarks threads or something or his 290 review i'm sure he would have had comparisons somewhere

No benchmarks from humbug with a 780.

As humbug is so vocal about his opinion on amd cards I would assume he would have jumped at the chance to show how a 780 performed so poorly In his pc.

Now you have gone and done it, prepare to be called a lair. :o

There is definitely something your not telling.

The card was crap to you or you did not like having green, Or it performed just fine but you would rather have amd, That's fine either way, but not a mention anywhere of how well or poor it did with any benches or pics.

Yeah I always wanted the 780 Ti version of it. It looks like a beast.

It is a well made card tbh, Cannot fault it except that it's not a 780ti ;)

My 650w power supply died on Thursday so had to buy a new 850w one so at least when the missus is not looking I could grab another one :). They are looking to be getting very rare now though.

2 inno3d's will weigh a tonne though.

The card was fine, I prefer the 290 and I could not justify the price of the 780.

In an ideal world I would like both.

Hope you have a big case. I had two of these PCS+ cards and it was pretty ridiculous.

This. Would love to afford a 780Ti but cant, probably just as well because without Amd on Nvidias heels we would all be paying a fortune for our graphics cards. :)

It is an older Akasa Zor case and yeah it will fit with an 3/4 of an inch in between the cards, dont need sli though with only my 1920x1200 monitor.

The best thing about big coolers ( as i am sure you'd agree ) is the fans never really go over 50% so all you can hear are the case fans.

People don't understand with pricing that it's largely down to what the market is willing to pay. So in the instance of these cards, the similarly performing AMD card is not viewed in the same way as the equivalent nVidia card (290X vs 780Ti).

Put simply the market is willing to pay more a nVidia card which performs the 'same' as its AMD counterpart. As much as people sometimes think AMD are the white knight for having lower prices this just isn't true. Companies of this size aren't really altruistic: if they could charge more and maintain profit they would...

So why did Nvidia drop the price of their 780's when the 290 launched?

AMD could have priced the 290@£440 and it would have been cheaper than 780's, they didn't, the 290 launched at £300 directly FORCING a 780 price cut.

If it wasn't for AMD's pricing we would be looking at £1000 Titan blacks, £750 780ti's and 780's@£550.

Yes the market is willing to pay more for Nvidia, just not that much more.

Pretty obvious why. There wasn't a competitor to their product then there was so the market was now willing to pay less.

Firstly, if AMD could have priced at that level they would have so the fact they didn't isn't through altruism. It reflects the reality of their position at that time. Secondly, the price that they sold at reflected that they were comparatively late to the market place with this generation of cards compared to the Titan / 780. It also reflected the quality of the product (reference cooler etc).

Thirdly, that's not how market pricing works I'm afraid. AMD don't force the price down of nVidia cards; it has an impact but this notion that price would spiral up to thousands if it wasn't for AMD is a fallacy. I haven't done the analysis but it would seem like common sense that there isn't a big enough market place at the mentioned price points for that to become a (edit) permanent reality.

Yes the market is willing to pay more for Nvidia, just not that much more.

Not anywhere near as much as it was previously that's for sure :p. If AMD keep on with the cool features which get the market place talking which have a tangible benefit to games as well as improving their game bundle it won't be long before the market reflects that in the price its willing to pay.
