i already have a 1tb samsung sata hdd, 2 x sata cd/rw drives and a 700w psu, will be used with a 32" samsung lcd tv on 1080p preferably hdmi connection and usb 3.0 for faster transfer rates with my external hdds

any help would be appreciated, used to build pcs a long time ago but havnt had much to do with them in the last 8 years or so and im unsure on what new tech is good for gaming

What 700W PSU is it exactly?

If you need an OS then you can download and use a 3 month Win8.1 trial and buy it later.

its just a basic win power adk 700w, nothing special but should do the job right? it has seperate power for gpu aswel

i was also looking at this sort of setup if it would be ok, i would like a small ssd so i can run certain games faster and boot up quicker

The AMD setup I did would destroy that spec.

You have a CPU which is incompatible with the board.

A slow GFX card so games will suck

A single stick of RAM when a dual channel RAM kit is best.

I would look at investing in a better PSU.

Stuild's spec is a lot better, even though it does not include a SSD but this can be added down the line.

In terms of power 700w is plenty, whether it can supply a stable voltage and current needed to run the system its hard to say.

A quality branded 500w PSU from Seasonic, Superflower, Antec, Corsair and BeQuiet just to name a few will be perfect.

I bought the psu from **** for £45 I think last year, it's got the normal 20 pin power with the 4 pin extension, a 6 pin gnu power lead and several sata power lines and normal white power lines with a floppy line aswel

Right I've changed my mind and to spend abit more on a gaming rig to get something capable of playing some more top end games on high,

My current desktop pc is quite old and I'm not sure if it's worth updating it, here's the spec and I'm hoping someone can help me decide on the best options available

Cpu Intel pentium 4 519k socket 775 3.06ghz
Motherboard gigabyte ga-81915pmd
Ram ddr 2 6gb 2x 2gb 2x 1gb only running on 4gb due to main board
Graphics nvidia geforce 8400 gs 512mb
Case basic Packard Bell
Power supply 700w win power adk-700
Hdd 1 160gb sata
Hdd 2 160gb ide
Hdd 3 80gb ide
Cd/rw 1x LG sata 1x unbranded ide
Currently running windows 7 home premium

I doubt this can be upgraded but I'm unsure so thought I'd ask people who know more than me

I would be swiftly whacking the parts for sale or into the bin they go. Pretty much nothing there is reusable apart from win7.

lol i didnt think so, well atm i have around £400 - £450 to spend but i would like something better than that, i can save maybe an extra £200 - £300 a month and was wondering what a rig that is capable of playing new games on high

Say you have 400 quid now, you could have 750 quid next month which should bag you a nice build to play games on high/ultra. New processors from Intel should be out some time then as well.

would 1000 get much better than a 750 quid spec? ill mainly be on games like diablo 3, stargate 2, crysis, gta, minecraft and call of duty, im just after a decent spec that will play them on high/ultra instead of using my laptop on low

A 280X or better will play Crysis3 at 1080P with decent settings.

So if you can afford it then go for it.

Well a FX 6300 or 8320 does a pretty good job as it is but Intel are faster.

Again its all down to cash, if you did opt for a better GFX card then a better case would be advisable with more fans fitted and thus better airflow.

Then of course your PSU becomes a concern as a more powerful GFX card will demand more power and stable power (ripple etc)
