Taking cable to a brick wall

Problem I'm having is the mortar turns to dust whenever a clip is hammered in to it and it just falls out, tried no more nails but that wont stick because of the dusty surface..

Any ideas?

Could you prime the area to stop the seal the dust before using adhesive to stick the clips.

Depends what the brick is like! The bricks in my house laugh in the face of tacks!

Drill 5mm holes, pop these in - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-Pin-Plugs-for-fixing-cable-clips-into-hard-surfaces-/260520616023 then just hammer standard cable clips in to them.
Yellow rawl plugs can do the job too although the dedicated pin plugs are spot on.

Thanks for the suggestions. Had slim success hammering into the brick but I hope between those and the few that are loosely held in the mortar the cables should be ok, will invest in some of those plugs anyway - hopefully I get time to redo it properly.
