Foie Gras and Buddhism

Fois Gras is just an example. It might be a Buddhist and someone who goes shooting or fox hunting. Do Buddhists view that person in exactly the same way as they do anyone else? Or do they have repulsion towards their activities and so therefore avoid association or friendship with them? What would the Dalai Lama say?

It is always a difficult one with regards to assosiating with people who's views I find abhorant. In an ideal world all fox hunters are brain dead morons but people often aren't as one sided as that.

Had Foie Gras once was bloody awful.

Why? I am asking because I follow Buddhism but wanted to know how to view things that conflict. Buddhists are supposed to forgive, but do they still exercise their right to not be friendly due to something they disagree with?

oh hey great have a question for you.

since your a Buddhist would you have a problem being friends with someone who eats Foie Gras?

Strange question i know but someone on an internet forum asked so i wanted to get the opinion of a Buddhist for him.

Foie Gras is far crueler than halal...

Frankly the Frogs, Japs and Chinese are way way worse than the 'muslamics' everyone is currently in uproar over

I follow Buddhism but am by no means an expert, else I wouldn't ask the question. But I have an interest as I have friends who I later find out love froi grois!

“Judge nothing, you will be happy. Forgive everything, you will be happier. Love everything, you will be happiest.”

Above is a quote, and it is CORE to not even thinking of judging, for yourself and for others

you are the only one who can answer the question.

you're a Buddhist you have friends who eat froi grois do you think you can still be friends with them?

yes or no?

you cant just ask someone else is your feelings that matter no one elses.

and are you a Buddhist as in believe and practice it all or just trendy hipster "oooo eastern religion" guy?

Force feeding ducks for fois gras may not be ethical, but nothing I've heard of to date beats the cruelty of partly cooking live fish and eating the poor thing alive, there are plenty of sickening youtube clips out there.

is the Buddhist philosophy not more about not being wasteful. i suppose it depends, the likelyhood of this occuring is surely rather slim? unless your the op that is...

even with no religious or philosophical preferences on the matter i still dislike the concept of fois gras, just seems a tad unnessecary for high class grub. i'd rather have a tough and sinewy free range alternative.

Yet they aren't fooling you to eat it by not labeling what it is or dressing it urp as something else.

 muslims arent fooling anyone for your info;), blame Tesco and the other major supermarkets out there for not labelling their meat as halal or non halal.

As for Foie gras?? after seeing a video about it a few yrs ago...i have to say its the most disgusting way to treat an animal...truly and utterly disgusting.

But it tastes so good - that I don't really care :o

I know I shouldn't, and I know it's horrid... but I was brought up on snobby foods, and it really is such a delicious treat. I wouldn't have it all the time, but during my visits to haute cuisine restaurants its one thing I can never pass up on. Frankly, I can live with my decision.

It is good, but very hard to cook. So if you try it. Go somewhere that can cook it properly.

You can also get ethical foie gras that naturally gorge themselfs. You wait for geese to naturally fatten up, which is just before they migrate. And the liver naturally enlargens.

Think of it like the foie gras version of Rosie veal
