Saw this on my local newspaper website.

I'm not sure what's happened, but it's hard to see how it wasn't as a result of pressure from a member of UKIP. The party are fairly popular in the area surrounding Cambridge, though thankfully not in the city.

We cannot afford to play nice - we are in a battle for the very survival of England. Anybody who refuses to fight the EU is a TRAITOR and deserves no quarter. The marxists and immingrants who have infiltrated every level of our society are finally going to be ousted. VOTE UKIP.

Some of the people is this country worry me, and there seems to be more of them every day.

Traditionally a liberal fence sitter. Postal vote went off today for the Greens. From now on I doubt I'll vote for one of the three main parties ever again. If you keep voting for the same parties you'll always get the same results.

Green isn't ideal as I'm massively pro-nuclear, but they'll come round when the first brown-outs start in a few years.

It seems that people should be paying attention to the councillors in your area if you really interested in who can make a difference. MEP's and MP's might be further up the food chain but to overlook councillors is very short sighted.

Anyway, being from S.Yorks means I might as well not be arsed to vote cos it will be labour win as usual. Actually I can't vote as I'm 'Off the Radar' but at least I don't contribute a ****ing single penny to that council tax rubbish that waste money like no tommorrow on pointless projects and HUGE pension pots for council officals, fire officers and coppers. OH HOW I HATED PAYING INTO THAT POT - not anymore :)

Am I right in thinking I can vote on behalf of my immediate family?

Lol no not unless you are registered to do so.

How are you of the radar so to speak. Sound interesting.

No, they don't. All tickets that are spoilt are placed in the bin, they count for nothing, no one notes how many were spoilt, the whole action is a complete waste of their time.

Even the BBC suggests that rejected/spoilt papers are counted and noted but the numbers are not announced to the public unless requested.

Most easily Googler results show that most if not all countries record spoilt ballots as part of the overall turn out.

People are also asking for a none of the above option to make it easier/more official.

Intact I'm sure last time I watched voting results on TV the guy called the number of spoilt papers. That would have been the last general election :-$

I could swear they say how many spoilt ballots there are when they talk about election results on the news, heh.

edit - or that ^^

My other half has sat and done electoral duties several times. Every time they are told to bin the spoilt votes. She says it is silly because the only person who sees the spoilt vote is her, she reads that the voter has written their little piece like "Nick Clegg is a useless ****" then bins it. Does she care? No. Does an MP hear about it? No. So is it a complete waste of time? Yup!
