excellent and well considered posts. 10/10

what don't you like about them?
what would you choose as an alternative?
how could the design be changed to be more suitable for you?
what similar products have you used that you are using to base your opinion on these products?

come on guys, this is a discussion forum, im sure you can come up with a better reasoned argument than that.

should at least sell headphones like the Creative Aurvana Live (1 & 2) which are already well respected at the lower end of the market.

While I like the colour scheme, they just look kind of unattractive for a portable a headphone, but that's just my opinion(I use the D7100 for portable use which many find ugly)

For the price the K167, SRH440, 003 clones like the HM5, Skull Candy Aviator are reputable and tested and are more likely to be recommended. I would obviously need to hear one and give them a fair shot against some competition. The use of velour pads would have been nice. I'd like to hear more explained about the actual sound.

The gaming version wouldn't really have a place in my collection unless it can outperform my current sets.

Also the Razor forged Kraken edition is over £200. For that price I can get a reputable excellent pair of headphones, why should someone pick this product over say the AKG K267 which is class closed back or even the Denon D600.

I'd like to hear them though as I would any set. Send me some for review and I'd give them a fair shot.

Hope this helps,

I certainly could, I just wasn't expecting our opinions to be considered off the back of a promotion.

The post would be fine in gaming peripherals, but generally those in Sound City are not a fan of the "gaming" brand market. Headsets are almost exclusively inferior to a set of headphones - there are several 'budget' (read <£50) 'phones on the market that are street miles ahead of headsets priced twice as much or more.

As an alternative, we (I presume I am speaking for more than just myself here!) would like to see a range of hifi equipment start to hit your shelves - of course there are mother retailers which exclusively deal with hifi-audio, but why not? - such as some of the more commonly recommended 'entry'-level headphones; Koss PortaPros, Panasonic HTF600S-E, CAL!, Logitech UE600, HM5s, DT770/990 for example. As you are already tied to several of these companies with regards to their other hardware/peripheral offerings it shouldnt be hard to introduce stock or indeed acquire sales. This would have two benefits: You would cater to a wider market here at OcUK and secondarily, it might improve peoples knowledge of the sound market and how headphones will be superior to headsets - 'abolishing' many of the myths associated with it.

I'm not sure what you mean by design - if you mean with regards to the product then you have no control over that anyway, but if you mean with regards to the layout of the post then I see nothing wrong with it.

See the first paragraph for alternative products. With regards to why they are better, a google or a look at the sticky will give you some basics on that - but I'm sure you already know they are superior.

Thanks for your time and consideration on the matter, I would be happy to answer any further questions or provide any more info at your request.

As an aside, before I knew anything much about audio I bought myself an older Plantronics GameCom model and I thought it was excellent - comfy, looked 'cool' and functioned. I then started getting into the audio world so to speak, and wanted a cheap pair of comfy headphones for portable uses; this resulted in my purchase of the the Koss PortaPros. I wasn't expecting a great deal, my budget was low and I payed 50% of what I did for the GameCom for them. Anyway, I get hold of them, and they just blew my mind. There was no comparison between a £40 headset and a £20 of headphones - the soundstage was better, better separation, better clarity, more controlled bass, more forward mids. No word of a lie, I went up 2 divisions by the end of a ESL CS:S season, because of the headphones, I could hear were people were, explosions, guns, footsteps, weapon switches were all clearer and more accurate. To top it off they were pretty damn decent for music too.

I know it sounds like Im laying it on a bit thick, and headset audio will have come along a bit since (or I hope so, I tried the Siberia V2s about a year back and they were utter trash), but for gaming purposes, headphones will simply be better as they are focused towards audio, as opposed to being focused to being a marketing gimmick (LED pulsing on the V2s, for example, what the hell is the point in that, I mean seriously, who gives a toss).

Oh, and I find it daft that you stock other 'gaming' IEMs, but not the SS Flux's which are actually the only half-decent set out of the lot and are actually worth stocking. They're great for music and gaming on a sub-£50 budget - unlike the others in stock! :p

You guys ever considered selling proper headphones and v moda boom pro mics or mod mics?

Stuff like that if cheaper than the current retailers we would be interested in.

would you guys actually be interested in stuff like this?

i have been our headset buyer for a long time now and each time i try hi fi and audio stuff, there just isnt any demand for it.

ok, i will look into that, thanks for the suggestion.

You need to convince the market base that headphones are superior, as I previously stated there seem to be a lot of myths around it - the most infuriating and bs one is "more convenient". The largest obstacle, in my opinion, is that there are so many different headphones, so many different sounds, and a plethora of 'complex' terms being used to describe how the headphones sound. If you could find a way of simplifying that (perhaps through a guide, or even expand upon the current sticky and get it spread out to other areas of the forum - perhaps even offer demo pairs, then I am confident there would be interest.

See my earlier post for other more budget/simplistic headphone alternatives.

ok, i will look into that, thanks for the suggestion.

you guys are probably stocking too much choice or are pricing yourselves out the market

If I was in charge I would be looking at

Koss Porta Pro's and KSC75 for the cheap end of the market

Creative Aurvana Lives for mid end of the market

Fidelio X1's and Sennheiser HD 598's for the high end of the market

I wouldn't go any higher than that or stock anything else, it just wouldn't sell then.

then bundling the V moda Boom Pro with the Fidelio X1's and Bundling the Antlion Mod Mic with the HD 598's.

You then also may want to look into PC headphone splitters like the on es sennheiser and astro sell, etc.

So basically adding 4 headphones and 2 mics to your current range of goods, so long as you were cheaper than the competition, then you could stick a few posts on hotukdeals and then word would get around where to go for a good gaming headset.

excellent points, thanks for that. will take those models you suggested into consideration

I certainly could, I just wasn't expecting our opinions to be considered off the back of a promotion..

not at all. this is a discussion forum. Razer give me little incentive to support their brand, we just do because they are popular.

I love hearing feedback on products, good or bad. As a Product Manager, this sort of information is valuable to me and a resource that other resellers don't have access to.

In honesty, I have only bought a small quantity of all of the above units [bar the white kraken as I am sure they will fly out] the reason behind the small quantity is to test the water really as i mentioned above, OcUK hasnt ever had success with audio only headphones.

We have a direct relationship with Sennheiser so that may be a good place to start, I will also look into a few other units and see if we have the facility to buy them too.

tbf, cutting down your current range of headsets wouldn't hurt either. Some are arguably better than others - even at a lower budget - and so by axing the 'crap' ones you will have a much smaller base of headphones/headsets that will be less confusing for the buyer. To expand on this, you have about 20 products between £30-50, they are all very similarly specced and offer very little over one another - aside from name. IF you could reduce this to say, five or so which are 'better' than the others, it could stand you in good steed and confuse the buyer less if more audiophile based headphones were to be brought into the mix.

ohhhhhh and MIXAMPs if you can get Astro mixamps in for cheaper than £130 then you could be onto a winner there for everyone in the console section.

there should be a new 2014 model being released soon for the new gen consoles, get that in for launch and I imagine sales of decent gaming headphones you had in stock would also fly off the shelves.

Exactly! At least mention how you can have either a pair of DT770's or DT990's for less than their 'premium elite pro 1337' grade of headset.
