***The Official Battlefield 4 Thread***

Pretty sure I read about that the tick rate isn't really the problem, ie the could have a 10000 tick rate your still going to see the same native game problems.

In fact as time marches on, more and more updates come around. It's pretty clear by now that Dice don't really know what to do about this.

The hyperbole is strong in this one...

The game played fine last time I was on PS4, never noticed any issues tbh but we were playing vanilla maps.

Need to try Naval Strike and if that plays fine then the game is going in the right direction.

How?..it was explained on their own site the tick rate isnt the problem, why are so many people happy to defend the actions of DICE and EA?

This only goes on to f us all over in future releases as they will learn nothing from this.

Feedback from the CTE testers on PC with the increased tick rate says otherwise.

Its simple logic. The issue with tick rate is that you cant have 64 player massive tick rate servers due to cost. They would chomp bandwidth.

Devs have to draw a line and they've been too conservative.

what is the current tick rate? 16?

CSS had 66-100 tick servers 10 years ago. So asking for 32 tick IMO shouldn't break the bank (given technology should have moved on as well as become more efficient and therefore cheaper for more bandwidth over time). I think upping it to 32 would make everyone happy apart from PC gamers as it would stop a lot of laggy deaths from cover due to the time difference between clients effectively being halved.

I don't know what they have done to the PS4 servers/version but most problems seem to have been fixed. They did say new servers had been bought/upgraded or something so it looks like most of the issues were with the servers.

I hate that I've paid for someething unfinished - but the problem is, it's so damn good when it works well. And despite all the complaints, most I know have put in well over 100 Hours, with many being well into the 200s. (me included).

Even including all the bugs, it's still more enjoyable than most off the other crap that comes out. And yeah so I feel like I paid to Beta test it for 6 months...which sucks...but it's still cost less per hour than any other game in the last 10 years.

Now, I haven't encountered any issues in a good few weeks on PS4. Nothing that ruins the enjoyment at least. OK so sometimes i feel like I got shot around a corner...but it's a death, so what. I only ever play in a group so I just spawn again a few seconds later and get on with it. That' probably the only issue I still see in the game and it's fairly rare now for me

I encounter bugs and glitches in ALL games anyway. sloww down, random deaths, NPCS vanishing, standing in mid-air - the floor vanishing - not being able to progress. It happens in every game and it's annoying more in those than in BF4 because they are single player where it can cost me actual time having to re-play sections.

This, I have no problem with the game itself, I easily ONLY played BF3 for two years or so with the odd exception for other games that came out, but I always went back to BF3 ( even though it still wasn't fixed entirely over that time).

When it feels like its working its a fantastic game, but the constant feeling that im getting kills from luck rather than any skill makes it feel like I'm less involved, get a run of bad games and I'm spending more time frustrated and just wasting my time. Its more frustrating that some investment from them would have this game running fine. Whilst they SHOULD be working on balancing the game the best they can, we have nothing but mostly bug fixes.

I'm on from around 12.45-4.15pm today with my mate as I have the afternoon off. Just in time for the sun to be directly in my living room - meaning I can't see the damn TV.

Think i'll go on the smaller TV upstairs - nowhere near as good but at leats I can see it! lol

bear in mind BF4 has 64 players. Bandwidth and processing power of the server are your issues here. Asking for 32 still doubles both those over existing spec.

Its much more complex than tick rate due to a lot of clientside processing, what you are basically complaining about is the downsides of having the clients do their own calculations.

The benefits of client side processing are quite numerous, unfortunately you will get the anomaly of getting hit round corners quite a bit which will be more prevalent if there's any clients running with 200ms+ pings. In theory if you hit the guy on your screen you should score the hit even if the other guy thinks he got to cover in time, which he actually didn't, because you did actually hit him.

Now the servers do have a tick rate of 10, which sounds low because it is low, but because of clientside processing the game stills appears to run smoothly because your client will be sending numerous game state updates per tick same as everyone elses. Even if you had zero lag with a tick rate of 10 you will still be looking at potentially 100ms to get the latest game state to you machine, so yeah it is a touch low imo.

works both ways however. if the server is updating players more frequently, there is less chance of you being behind cover on your screen but not on theirs since the other players game resembles the servers more closely.

Blinds or Curtains? Move the tv's position/angle? I take it's a plasma?

Just Blinds at the minute. Looked at curtains but the window is huge and seen the cost of them and walked away. I hate buying boring things. Window is more than 3m x 2m.

It's an LED TV.

I prefer gaming in the bedroom anyway and it's only 47" which isn't big enough for my living room. I had to buy a beanbag to half the distance to it from my sofa...so think i'll put it upstairs and buy a bigger one for the living room.
Current bedroom TV is old LCD so not really good enough. It can go in the spare bedroom.
I just need to be able to justify it. My company had asked my to rent a room to an intern for 6 weeks from the 12th May which would have netted me £1250 - which was going on a new 55"" TV. But they just cancelled it last week. I don't NEED the TV, so don't want to buy it without getting that money from other means.

Guess i'll have to just bite the bullet and spend money on boring curtains - I need them anyway eventually to finish the room off.

Go out and enjoy the nice weather!

Weather wasn't that nice. It was really sunny, but raining and really windy too. Been like that all week. So get the sun in the house, but if you go outside it's horrible!! Worst of both situations.

Hoping for some actual sunny days soon though so I can get a BBQ going :)

Just played with my mates last night in the end. Can not get into Conquest at all. It's just so boring. I just feel like I'm running from A to B and sitting there, rinse and repeat. I only have fun if I ignore the flags and just go for kills instead.

I only play Rush, Obliteration and CTF now. Or sometimes SDM or DOM for smaller game.

We try to find squad rush games these days. Where server is half empty so it's like 5v5 with no commander. Really fun! Wish that was in the game as an actual mode.

Games last night seemed fine, there was a drop in frame rate when crazy stuff happens like that skyscraper coming down, etc other than that it ran quite smoothly.

Whats the best setup for the 870MCS shotgun? I tried that slug thing which increases range, but it was terrible IMO some hits just weren't being registered at all at point blank.
