I'm looking for something reliable with a bit of poke for my day to day car. I won't be doing a lot of mmiles with it so I would prefer a petrol and engine size isn't a problem so I'm open to some wild cards :p

Petrol
Manual
Decent size engine, the quicker the better
Up to 7 years old
3 or 5 door is ok
2 seater is a possibility but 4/5 would be better
Low as possible mileage

I was thinking to go with something like an astra Sri, has anybody got any experience with these?

Thanks.

I got a mk1 TT, albeit with a LPG conversion, for within your budget. I'd never really considered one until my boss took me out in his. So far I couldn't fault it.

If you get passed Clarksons review of it being a girls car, consider..

225bhp
40mpg
4wd
Great handling and road presence
Built on a common VAG chassis
Well designed interior (a rearity for affordable German cars)
Proper coupe looks

The only down points are tiny rear seats and boot and stability control which can be a bit too noticeable, although it can it be turned off.

Depends how short I guess, from what I've heard I think you just need to make sure the engine gets up to temperature which is probably something like 5 minutes...

Still, I think at £5K it could be fun - http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...-consumption-issues/2264927?isexperiment=true

As someone else said the Megane Sports can be had at this price now as well which would probably be my choice based on what you've said - http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...recaro-buckets-2007/2267172?isexperiment=true

having owned a few rx8's i can tell you they all use oil because the engine is like a 2 stroke engine in that it need lubricating, so they all inject oil in to the chambers. meaning you have to keep an eye on it and should also only use the mazda zoom oil and carry a small 1l can in the boot to top it up every month.
also 5k is a lot .. for an rx8 and millage should be sub 40k or atleast had a rebuild.. around 2k

Badly written advert, rubbish photographs, if its 1 mile down the road its worth a look but I wouldn't want to waste much time travelling to see it.

This is going to be a disaster, you've no idea what you want so you've presumably given no real consideration to costs etc. How can you post up a tuned Impreza and then later say you are off to look at a 1.3 litre Suzuki Swift?!

I was having a think about it last night, I've had my fun fast cars so I'm going to go for something cheap and cheap to run. Doing this will help me free up some cash for a deposit towards a house and then look at something else later. Time to get my sensible head on I think.
