Sony stopping pc production

Even manufacturers that make a profit on PC's, the margin is no better that 3% these days - I'm not surprised Sony have thrown in the towel.

They could compete when their brand had clout.

Sony VAIO laptop used to be a status symbol, now it's all Macbooks.

And the vast majority of people don't want to pay more than they have to for their laptop unless it's an "Ermergerd merkberk" because to them it's a magic box that has facebook and porn.

Why get a sony when the samsung is cheaper eh?

I wouldn't go that far. Macbooks are popular but so are HP Ultrabooks and Lenovo Ideapads. Most especially within the workplace.

You'll find most people buy a HP these days unless they are spending serious cash

Everyone i know that has bought or considered buying a low end laptop has bought them from a supermarket... thats got to be < 1% profit margins.

ACER + Packard bell crap

VAIO used to be the choice of the Elite Windows media center XP users :O back before the days of HDMI

Not really surprising, the vast majority of laptops sold are 'budget' £250-£400 facebook boxes, which was never really the price range of the Sony.

Not surprising really.
The only Sony products laptop end that actually look worthy, we're talking 900-1000 pound touchscreen Vaio 1080p things :p

Most people will buy whatever cheap crap the guy in purple shirt world will give them, consumers are morons - they don't know jack **** about pc's

Yup, all our equipment is Lenovo at the school.

They are wanting to implement Mac's, however in a Windows based environment it's not the easiest thing to do ;)

Are there no British manufacturers? I suppose with the small profit margins there isn't much call for it, but it's a shame that there is no British equivalent of Dell/Lenovo/HP etc. I suppose they all use components manufactured by others anyway, so if I want British I might as well buy from OCUK.
