It's kind of as badcompany pointed in post 750. Even if you were to point out that UKIP lie, are mess internally and create a lot off mess externally, people who support them just don't care.

There is very little you can do or argue with to change minds of people who vote separatist and fringe parties like BNP and UKIP. It takes specific mindset and outlook to believe in Little England myth, to support separatism and believe that selective or full on xenophobia is OK in second decade of 21st century. And such mindset is very immune to reason, facts or figures. Most of us look outside of the window and see flourishing multinational country that needs to integrate so it can do better in the future, they look outside and see trenches, wasted lands where Empire once stood, landscapes spoiled and their old town swarmed with alien faces plotting in tongues. But who did it to oos? Who broke me England they ask. Who is to blame? "It is the ewww's!" says Nigel. "It's them ewwwropeans sent by Brussels, but look - beyond the cliffs of Dover, that dust, that mist above dirty France, that's humongazillion of them towing their caravans to the gates of Blighty!" What do they want Nige? "They want to take what's lawfully "ours" by "birthright"! They come to take your spongy white bread with sugary beans from your mouth. They come for your bangers and mash. They come to remove all the sinks with two taps. And they carry the chaos of terrible legislations with them, the lower roaming fees, the longer holidays and less working hours, the works. And worse yet, all of their incomprehensible measurements are devisable by 10!"

So it takes an outlook. And a stance. And a need to justify prejudices, to have support, to be xenophobic and close mined in a crowd. And Nigel provides just that. And the only way for UKIP to survive is to be in EU parliament. Because it's the only funds they have. And so they will go and not do their job again for half a decade, not turn up to meetings and vote against common sense. And it would be funny, and a good way to rub major party noses in protest vote, if it wasn't actually affecting economy and people's lives.
Great post.

Jackanory time, milk and cookies how quaint.

And that's the best reply you've got? I see why you're voting UKIP.

Think for a moment, were you to pluck a Senator from classical Rome or a "Citizen" from classical Greece and show them the modern world, they would be most impressed at the technical competence of modern societies (#) but, at the same time, appalled at the level of self indulgence and decadence!

Indeed, I believe they would regard the modern world as a dangerous anarchy perpetually on the brink of collapse at the merest hint of instability!

A person from ancient time looking at our society would see that most people in developed countries live like kings who enjoy freedom, food, shelter, safety, healthcare, leisure time, education and many other perks. They would then look at people such as yourself and wonder why you would think this society is on the brink of collapse.

War could easily engulf Europe, Just like 100 years ago, we could sleepwalk into it without really realising we are doing so (The Crimea is a long way from the home counties, but even as I type this our leaders are driving us towards a possible military conflict that could potentially lay waste to a continent!)

We do not live in "Peaceful times"! When was the last time the British Army wasn't fighting somebody?

(ISTR a recruiting ad along those lines, It featured "one" year since WW2 when we had some time off! ;) :D )

Have you forgotten about Bosnia/Yugoslavia

War within Europe "unthinkable!" You are kidding yourself!

The former Yugoslavia is not in the EU, nor is Crimeea. I believe you were not following, I didn't say it's unthinkable for EU countries to be involved in wars, there are plenty of regions in the world that continue to live in the past. I was refering to the EU itself, its members have fought themselves for centuries which culminated in two conflicts at the beginning of the last century of incomprehensible violence. Yet, today, just decades away, conflict between these countries is indeed unthinkable and the EU is one of the most important factors that lead to this situation.

(# As a totally unrelated aside, I recall reading an account of a 19th century Indian Princes visit to the "Home of the Empire" He was (naturally ;) ) awestruck by the industry but also appalled by it, To use the H G Wells analogy, the experience struck me as being a bit like an account of an Eloi being confronted by a Morlock, With Us (British) being the Morlocks! :D )

Maybe you should stop reading the accounts of Princes/Monarchs and start reading the accounts of people who were seen as "Dalit" in the traditional Indian caste system, when exposed to a developed society. I suspect they would have quite a different view.

Some intelligence in this thread, bravo Dimple!!

Ya think!

You have much to learn young Padawan!

Really? Most Roman Emperors had brothels in their palace and many of them were murdered.

We've got nothing on antiquity when it comes to decadent ruling classes and political anarchy.

Finally someone who sees the truth :D

No, it's someone with an opinion you happen to agree with, many others have a different opinion.

Yet these different opinions are incredibly difficult to articulate and rationally support without sounding like an idiot, which explains the tendency of the UKIP fans to either throw one liners into the discussion (point in case) or deflect it with random, and often hilarious, claims ( EU = USSR).

Yet just another ranting opinion.

Im not sure if you are just trolling, but you have just proven Zethor's point.

I have yet to see a single argument for voting UKIP in the EU elections, only attempts to derail the discussion.

Carry on ranting guys, wont change the fact a lot of people are sick and tired of labour, cons, and their ranting supporters. Change is in the air, get over it.

The following insults are ineffective, and will cause Guybrush to lose:

Boy, are you ugly!
What an idiot!
You call yourself a pirate?
I am rubber, you are glue.

Mr Texan. Just because you have no thought process of your own, doesn't mean you have to derail what other people have to say. Racist ukip supportes say 'pinyons like they say 'uman rites - not enough brain cells to pronounce the full word.

So you are just trolling thanks for letting me know, i can just ignore all posts you make in the future.

[edit]

Just because you don't like Lib/Lab/Con doesn't mean you have to vote UKIP lots of other parties who actually want to support the UK in the EU.

So you don't actually have a valid argument to vote UKIP? Ok.

Who said I voted UKIP? whatever my political view I'm not willing to argue any points with you, I've made my mind up and don't owe anyone an explanation, just makes me laugh seeing the Cons and labour supporters writhing in bleach as UKIP gather more support from a society who are crying out for real change. GET OVER IT.

Oh dear, calm down there fellow, getting personal with these insults only shows your fears for real change.

"UKIP is on course for a massive political upset with victory in the European elections in its sights"

Says Sky on the latest polls :P)

Could be due to this...

Although Ukip (29 per cent) is ahead of Labour (27 per cent) in the share of the vote, the carve-up of seats under the proportional voting system would give Labour 24 MEPs and Ukip 23. The Conservatives trail on 23 per cent, giving them 17 seats.

UKIP could get the most votes, according to the polls, but Labour would end up with more seats.
