Sorry where do I buy this from? Is it an MMO?

Currently, its a glorified tech demo.. soon it will become a hi-fidelity space based dogfighting simulator.. eventually it will become a large single-player/co-op space based game akin to wing commander, privateer, freelancer etc. And once you finish the main storyline, you will be able to access a vibrant and diverse persistent universe, where you will be able to become a trader, a bounty hunter, a pirate, an explorer, all of the above, or none of them at all.. you'll be able to board people's ships and fight them for control, or explore strange new worlds, and boldly go, where no-one has gone before..

You can become a backer over at https://robertsspaceindustries.com/ the cheapest package is currently $45 which gives you a basic ship, beta access (alpha is soon to start so playing is still a way off), and both the single player storyline, and persistent universe.

Thanks mate

If I throw in a pledge and order a ship now will I get access to the Arena Commander on the 29th?

Also I know you guys probably hear this every page but I don't know what ship to go for, looking at either the 300i or Avenger. What do you guys think?

Hey Rexton, you just need a Game Package and a $5 (about £3) AC Pass now the Alpha slots have ran out.

300i or the Avenger is all on preference tho sir, bear in mind you can always melt your pledge and switch around if need be.

The DFM/Arena Commander is part of the alpha, along with the next handful of modules they'll release. The alpha packages are all sold out now, but you can still get 'beta' entry which will mean you'll be able to try the persistent universe at an earlier point than regular, and you can buy a pass to *each* module for $5.

Out of the 2 ships you list, im of no help to you, cos i cant make the same decision myself :D I fancy upgrading once ive tried the DFM, and i'll probably buy a months subscription to unlock the ability to try all the available ships, and then buy whichever i fancy.
I'd pick the Avenger on looks alone though.

That's great thanks man, will order them now.

:)

No worries man, one thing I should mention though is I'm not sure if the Avenger will be in AC straight away (it might be) so you will get a lender Hornet until its in there.

Confirmed ships for DFM V1 are Hornet, 300i and Aurora.....everything else will be added as they go. You can still switch stuff around anyway

Im not sure they'd switch an Avenger to a Hornet, more likely to be the 300i given their prices.

Im wondering whether i'll get just an Aurora to fly, or whether my Starfarer will be converted to a Hornet, but i suspect the fact that i have one of the required ships it wont feel the need to offer me something for the $200 Starfarer until its in the module, which i'd imagine is about 1yr away :(

Hornets the loaner for every unfinished ship as far as I've heard man, nothing set in stone tho of course. I'd find a source but I've had a drink pal lol, hopefully you should get your Aurora and Hornet as multi crewed ships are a way off yet

hmm, didnt know it was the defacto replacement, interesting.

I'd still imagine that loaner will be based on the fact that you dont have an available ship to fly in, so rather than leaving you hanging they'll give you a loaner. If that is the case, then my Aurora LN will block the loaner, as i can fly an Aurora.

I can live with that though, and theres a few of us in our BF based org who will be fine with letting us use their account to try a ship, so i might even try that.
I just wish they'd not lock all ships out unless you own them (or get a loaner) as i'd quite like to use the DFM as a test drive of a few ships i wouldnt mind picking up.
I could buy the most expensive, try it, then melt to a cheaper one and try that, and stick with which i like best, but the Hornet is kinda in that list too, and paying $110-140 to try the Hornet then end up with the $60 Avenger... i could get an Avenger AND 325i with the RSI credit.

Yeah it could possibly work like that, guess we won't know for sure until launch.

Hopefully they'll let subs gift their test passes, I wont be using either of mine every month so I can gift you a test pass if thats easier for ya man.

Ive just looked up these test passes, im assuming its this?

“ TEST PILOT” access badge – a single-use token allowing you one day of access to test fly any of the five base spacecraft each month during a future dogfighting alpha test.
ONE DAY!? thats pretty mean really.

Im sure the devs are more than capable of concluding whether ships are OP vs another, but i cant help but think if most people only have access to 1 ship to base their opinion on, then thats essentially going to lead to complaints of OP/UP ships.

I'll just try the other ships on other peoples accounts, i was tempted to buy a sub for a month just to do this, but 1 day is just mean, and i'd rather use that $10 towards buying a ship.
As it is, their system prevents me from melting my Aurora because its within an Alpha package, so i cant even upgrade and pay the difference, i have to keep the Aurora and buy the other ship on top.
It just seems like letting people fly ships they dont own would also cause people to want them and therefore buy them.

I appreciate the offer though, but aside from the fact im sure i'll be able to test them all from mates accounts, i suspect it'll be locked to your account anyway.
I suppose theres not much rush either, i can still wait till we have an update where we can share access to our ships with friends & org members, and try them then, all i'd be missing out on is the ability to fly them in the AC module.

The ship i really fancy is the F8 Lightning, but i'd imagine thats a $200 ship, seeing as it looks set to be a Hornet beater (larger, yet more thrusters so should be just as manoeuvrable etc) and that i suspect wont be available for at least a year.

@window
DFM/Arena Commander is set for release on the 29th, free-roam & Swarm (vs Scythe fighters) for everyone, and MP mode/s for early backers with more being added as things prove to be stable to do so. So staggered MP, everyone has SP/AI.

Apologies, I haven't kept up with SC, even though I was an early backer, but what is the deal with the ships, I see on the RSI website that there is a boat load of ships. Will these be able to be purchased ingame via upgrades/ingame credits or do you have to drop $200 for a kick ass ship?

I have a 300i in the hanger ready to go, but is this the ship I'm going to be "stuck" with unless I invest in a better ship?

Everything is still gonna be obtainable in Persistent Universe with in game credits. In the Dogfighting Module you will only get your pledge ship(s) but there will be test days for other ships.

Just remember that the ship you start out with is also likely to be the one you stop using 6 months later when you realise you made a horrible mistake and actually like larger/smaller/faster/slower ships or prefer crewing one of your mates ships :)

Everything can be bought, sold or upgraded so no need to stress about what ship you have now IMO.
