How far are you allowed to travel for an MOT?

So if there's no petrol station en route to the MOT station and I'm about to run out, I have to park up, take out my jerry can and get walking? :p

But then I'd not be driving it to an MOT station, I'd be driving it to a random street somewhere, so I'd still lose.
 
I'm sure that there are many many cars on the road with a lapsed MOT through stupidity, forgetfulness or ignorance so I wouldn't worry about the distance too much if it has insurance, tax and is mechanically sound.

Yeah, a relative of mine realised about 3 weeks ago that theirs lapsed in January. They commute along the M4 each day as well!
