Behind you... Naked!
Been considering this for a while.

I bought a Nokia 520 a while back, and despised it in under 15 minutes, but to be fair, I threw some songs onto it and it kept asking if I wanted to buy it or the album or see any info about it etc etc etc.. I was really annoyed and I could see that it more of took my hand and draged me around rather than offering help if you get my meaning.

Anyway, I am on Android, I have an S3 which is great, but Im still considering a windows phone, purely to mess about with.

I have just found one for £50 and so I thought that should be a nice price to get a half decent one without wasting too much money if I dont like it.

I got a Nokia Lumia 800 ( I hope its better than the 520 thats for sure )

But can anyone offer me any good tips or suggestions about it?

What good software can I get to get it to cync with my PC? ( Im on 8.1 )

I use a program Called Wondershare Mobile Go and this lets me syncronise anything thats android, and so I use it for both my Galaxy TAB3, my S3, and the kids Tablets, oh and the wifes phone too, so its pretty much perfect, but surely with a Windows PC and a Windows phone, I should be able to do things just as good if not better surely?

Although I have avoided the Windows apps in Windows 8 on the PC I have to admit... I do have ModernMix if I needed to use them, but... Ah Im wafflign again arent ?

I will drop it here. If you have anythign to guide me or give me info or anything really, then please by all means... Let me know.

Thank you.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the 520 is better than the 800 in a few ways.
The 800 is on windows phone 7.5 and wont be getting upgraded to 8(and then 8.1) which are very big steps forward. But at least with 7.5 you can use Zune to sync with your PC as windows phone 8 doesnt have a desktop client to sync with.
Syncing with 7.5 can be done on wireless with photos and music IRRC but on 8(.1) its very much geared for syncing to the cloud/onedrive.

Lumia 800 is NOT Windows Phone 8, it's only 7.8 and there's not support beyond that.

The Lumia 520 is the best entry to WP8 / WP8.1.

With regards to software, the Lumia 800 still uses the Zune software whilst WP8 phones now can sync with your media player / Windows Explorer drag and drop.

With regards to syncing across W8 / W8.1 with WP8/8.1 is mostly OneDrive based, apps are getting there with a growing list of apps that is available cross platform (buy once).

Well 15 mins would have had you gone into setting and turned any streaming information off, meaning all yoru music is purly localised to what on the phone, and you dont get any info etc about the music you have, thoguh I find it rather handy

Lumia has been out of date for well of a year and then some, it doesnt run Windows 8, but will run w7.8, missing on some pretty substantial improvements.

But can anyone offer me any good tips or suggestions about it?

Sell it on again and stick with Droid, seeing as the music system is a pretty simple drag and drop into the music file.

Bugger.

Im not sure I can say anything else really! LOL

No, hang on... This is whats going to happen, when it arrives...

" Here you are honey... I bnought you a brand new phone! - I love you ... Mwah mwah! "

To be serious though... Sure, I am a bit miffed I have to be honest, but I have no intention of using it as my main phone, I only want to mess with it. Sure, I did really want Windows 8 or hell 8.1 then ( Never knew 8.1 was available for a phone in all honesty ? ) but maybe this 7.5 or 7.8 might be fun enough to play about with.

Yeah, the android phones are flawless and are absolutely exactly what I want and need and I love them, and unless the windows phones do more and better, I wont be moving over to them, and of course they quite simply are not, so Android is safe.

Plus I have tons opf apps that I have had for free, and a good number of apps that I have paid a frightening price for too, so Im not going to throw that money away am I?

No, I dont think you have quite burst my bubble, but you have certainly knocked the hell out of it thats for sure.

Oh, and just for you to have a giggle... This months Contract bill of mine was £158.

Its a £13 bill and £7 for Vodafone family but I have been using the voice a lot recently and it seems to use google to get the voice info ( Explains why it has been slow ) and so It robbed me blind in doing that.

I have now completely disabled non wifi internet and only limited that too, so I should not go over my contract limits as set by my phone.

Oh, and I have also tethered my Galaxy Tab to it as well ,so thats clearly doen dammage too!

I am a right idiot me.

Thanks guys.

Cooling off period?
No, Im getting it second hand. Its kind of a one-way Im afraid. Once I got it, Im stuck with it.

How can a bill be that much?
Painfully simple. Although I am arguing this out.

My contract allows me only 500MB of data, if I go over, I get hit... Fair enough!

The thing is, that I did in fact receive a number of texts from Vodaphone, saying that I was near my limit and that if I required some more, I could text back and ask for another 250MB for £6 etc etc.. I never did text back and so I assumed that I would not get it.

The thing is this:-

I only ever stay in one of a few places these days as I am recovering from a massive accident

My house, My mates house, my mums house or Costa... All of these have internest access and my phone automatically connects when I go to them.

My phone WAS set to accept ONLY WIFI data but it seems that they are happy to also take other data too!

Now comes the really annoying part.

I have or rather HAD my Galaxy Tab tethered to the phone, so that the Tab, always had full internet access!!

Of course, this also means that all my emails and texts and updates etc etc, all took up the data allowance and well over that, and this coupled with the same on the phone itself, has meant that I have used up the odd one or two bytes more than I should have.

I have now disabled all that stuff, or at least I hope I have, so I wont use up several gigs like I have done.

Just a note for everyone to have a giggle at again...

Phone came yesterday but I was out. This morning, I sent my 2 boys to town to get it from the post office sorting office as a punishment for being deuches.

It came today but battery was dead. Its been on charge until about 3-ish when I decided I gave it enough to play.

Hmmm... Yup, Once again, I have quickly come to the conclusion that windows phones are junk.

Im giving it the wife. Its bloody crap. Its got the orignal owners name in the hotmail info... I cannot get rid and Im not having one. The Nokie Music is the most awful program I have seen in a hell of a long time, and so unless WinAmp does an app then Im avoiding playing music with this pile of cack, and quite frankly, I am astonished that microsoft actually has the nerve to release such utterly god awful software for what looks like half decent phone. I am really really glad I only wasted £50 on it cos I am so close to throwing this at the wall, and I would use it to wipe but andrex is better, and it looks like someone already beat me to it with the O/S

In other words... Its not my cup of tea.

No, I forgot... Another bloody thing...

Im running Win 8.1-64 Bit, and I needed to download ZUNE yes?

Does it work? No, it wont even install!

Dialog box comes up about the Package Manager

Note: PkgMgr.exe has been deprecated. Please update your scripts... blah blah

The implimentation is not capable of performing the scripts

WTF?

So, i try it on Win 7 and Im chucking XP onto an old Lappy just tophave a play about but If I cannot even use it with its MicroSofts own software then thats not looking too good is it?

I wonder if Luinux has software to do it? LOL

This is whjy I dont use any apple software... Microsoft are trying to do the same maybe?

Everyone told you the 800 was a bad purchase as it's 2 major updates behind and now you come complaining and blame it on Microsoft (Oh my God, it has the original owners details, if only there was such thing as a hard reset). I'm lost for words.

To be fair... I had already bought it BEFORE anyone said anything.

As for blame, yeah, I think the phone is crap compared to android. Again, as I said, I only wanted to try it out, I never wanted to replace the Android phone because that does exactly what I want it to, and more.

And besides, I am having a moan, sure, and hopefulyl anyone rading this will have a giggle at what a knob I am, but so what? why complain?

Go on. Explain.

You are judging a platform based on old hardware and old OS. It's like saying that Android is rubbish because you mistakenly bought a 2 year old phone running Android 2.1.

Windows Phone is not without its faults and it works very differently to Android. Given that you can't even work out how to reset it indicates that you have barely tried and that for you different = rubbish. Well that's how your posts are being interpreted :p

Just lol. If you want to give it a try get a wp8 phone and install wp8.1 or wait till 8.1 is released then pick up a 630, not an old unsupported phone.
Wp7 is utterly different. It's not even the same OS the similarities are only skin deep, other than the UI its not the same OS, WP7 is windows mobile based. Where wp8 is a totally new OS, not just an update.

Got to be trolling. Nobody is this stupid. Nobody who frequents a tech forum anyway (surely?).

Don't Vodafone charge £5 per 250MB as a standard out of allowance charge? Strange that they would send you texts offering you 250MB for £6... Still, I cannot fathom how you could use 6-7GB of data without realising, whilst ignoring the network's warnings, and then consider it to be the network's fault. It's not like it's a small and unnoticeable amount of data.

On the basis of this thread, you don't seem to be a very sensible person. A little restraint, research and some thought could have solved every 'problem' you've listed. The Lumia 800 was a silly purchase - it's old, runs the defunct Windows Phone 7 OS and is overpriced at £50 used. It was never going to 'wow' you over to Windows Phone.
