Got some money coming my way soon and looking to make some small changes to my build, but have a few questions:

YOUR BASKET
1 x AOC Q2963PM 29" Professional Super-Wide LED Multimedia Monitor - Gunmetal £281.99
1 x Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 240GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (SH103S3/240G) £97.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD20EZRX) HDD £69.95
Total : £449.93 (includes shipping : ).

SSD is to replace my OS drive and the 2TB will replace my current mech drive.

1. Would I lose much performance when comparing to my 24” 1080p monitor? I get about 80-120fps on BF4.
2. I play FPS and MMO’s and do a lot of photo editing. Would the monitor be ok? I cannot afford a decent IPS monitor

Current Spec:

Spec:
CPU: 2500k @ 4.5ghz w/ H100i
Mobo: ROG V Gene
RAM: Patriot Viper Black – 1866mhz
GPU: MSI HD 7970 Twin Frozr III
OS SSD – OCZ Vertex 4 128gb
Games SSD – 250gb Samsung 840
PSU: Corsair HX 850 Pro
Case: Parvum S2 Black & Red
Monitor: 24” BenQ 1080p

Yes you'll take a bit of a hit with FPS, how much I don't know you'll have to find some benchmarks :p

As for HDD I would go with a Seagate as it's faster and £10 cheaper, maybe you can stretch to the 3TB version.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST3000DM001) HDD £79.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £59.99
Total : £149.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

You know what, I've just remembered I have 2x 1.5TB WD Greens which I can put in RAID 1 instead :D They don't need to be fast, just reliable storage.

It depends what the 2TB drive will be used for. Simple storage of files? The the Green is the way to go. The speed really doesn't matter and the intellipower tech means a quiet and reliable drive

EDIT - too slow :D

Also this suggests you'll definitely see a hit in performance, although the test was running at 2560 x 1600

Yes, speed not an issue and the single WD Green I'm using now is mint! I will try and set up my 2 1.5TBs in RAID 1 and buy an external for backing up :)

Any idea on the monitor?

Yarp - see my edited post. You're going to see a hit, but whether the hit is acceptable to you only you can decide. I'd get the monitor and not worry too much about the performance hit - you'll not notice while gazing lovingly at your sexeh display

Yeah, that was my thought. Dropping settings from Ultra to High will help too!

Worst case is I buy a new graphics card!

Exactly - buy the monitor. Post pics when you're done. That display looks awesome for the money.

I sure will, just need to make sure Mrs don't mind and to make some desk space.

It won't be that bad the lg monitor has a res will of 2560x1080 not 2560x1440 as most benchmarks show, such as this one

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1032

So performance will be be a bit better than 1440p figures shown

HAHA - I didn't even think of using Anand!
