Looking to upgrade my GPU to a 290x but have been reading articles over the web that AMD might be working on a 290x successor that will be released this year.

Is there any truth to this? shall i wait or just buy a 290x now?

Thanks

It's always the question on anyones lips.... to upgrade or not?? I was in the same position going from a 670 to a 780.

Questions you ask yourself is are you happy with the performance you have now? If yes wait? If no then SLI/Crossfire or get a new card.

Waiting is pointless cause you could wait and then they might say we are working on blah blah and it will be out in 6-12 months. Tech moves quickly!

I wanted to wait for maxwell but Watchdogs made me buy another 780. If you need more power then buy now or you will be so stuck waiting for the next big thing that you never actually buy anything. I'm exaggerating but you get my meaning I hope!

I'm ok with the performance but playing the newer games would mean having to lower eye candy.

The main reason I asked is I dont want to buy a card now then in about 3 months a new one comes out. If a new one is coming out in 6+ months then that's fine but if a new card was to come out in 3 moths i'd be gutted.

The problem is the uncertainty of the requirements for games in the next year or two.

I am looking for a single 290/780 now for my future 2560x1440 screen. I know these cards will handle most current games at ultra settings at that resolution but I'd be pretty bleak if a £350 purchase couldn't do that in a years time.

As others have said if you play the waiting game you will always be waiting for the next release, Buy the best you can now and enjoy it :)

Good buy, don't forget to overclock it!

I personally think the best time to buy is 1 - 3 months after a new release. You get the benefit of not being screwed as an early adopter and a small price drop too.
