It's not BS at all. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was a case of the accountant simply summarised to Gary that he can save him loads of money, guarantees it is all legal and above board, which it was, and left it at that. This is what (tax) accountants do. They ensure that their clients are paying only that which they are legally obliged to pay, and will find ways to keep that number as small as possible. This was not illegal. A Judge has ruled a decade after the fact that it is an avoidance scheme.
This. Cannot be more simple.
He can keep it. What he has done is not illegal. He does pay tax, just not as much as perhaps he should.
He does way more for charity than the average person.
Government should make the tax system less complicated and close loopholes. It's their own fault for coming up with such a complicated system, and having high tax rates.
Thing is with tax, if people feel they are paying too much, they will actively seek to avoid it. If they think it is reasonable, they won't bother. (Yes there will always be a tiny minority that will do all they can to always avoid tax).
This country is turning into one of envy and it's disguisting. Anyone who is rich seems to be a target these days.
