OK, so the reason you are voting UKIP is to be a "Rebel Without a Clue"? Not because of their policies, nice to know you made an informed decision.

Vote based on the blatherings of a few forum members  It's great isn't it?

Well I am not English, I am Scottish. But I would imagine that the person who mentioned the 'English way of life' refers to a whole spectrum of things from our liberal Westminster Parliament democracy, monarchy and the notion of freedom of speech; right through to standing in queues, talking about the weather and always fancying the underdog.

Foreigners have no trouble identifying what makes England English, Scotland Scottish or Britain British. Why do you?

I don't see how any of those things are not present today and how there is any chance of them coming under threat ever in the future.

I don't have trouble identifying. I was asking you for your aspect on the matter.

I decided to vote UKIP because of this thread. Seeing the outrage it causes amongst the cosmopolitan progressives has convinced me it's the right thing to do.
I already knew you would vote for UKIP before you even posted in this thread.

(I keep a mental list of people I know are going to hold hilarious & unbalanced views on any given subject & know not to take them very seriously)

My interest in politics transcends this thread. My bookcase is dominated by political theory and I devote a great deal of my time to the subject. I was in fact a card carrying Conservative for nigh on a decade and was even asked to stand. So no, I have many clues.

There is no political party that represents my interest, and I don't consider the EU Parliament to be all that important. If ever there was an opportunity to send a meaningful message to the political elite, it was these elections. So I'll vote UKIP and watch with glee when the hissy fit begins come Monday.

Why? I am not a economic libertarian, they are not socially conservative and their immigration policy is really no better than Lib/Lab/Con. The only thing we agree on is defence.

You forgot the Fish&Chips :D

Oops... :D

I enjoy spending my weekends in the countryside, I think a lot of the little villages out there are what I'd identify as stereotypical "English". Nice old pubs, cricket green, old church.

Anyone for a scone?

Oh, and Morris dancers. Endangered species, dontcha know. :(

So in why is the EU parliament not important? Surely something that makes "70%" of our laws is very important.

I am not Nigel Farage, Shadez. Asking me to justify my position based on his comments is not something I can do.

"Seeing the outrage..." does not constitute a well informed decision.

To be informed is to be aware of the facts, to then make a decision based on those facts is to make a 'well informed decision'. Whether your choice is 'sensible' or not does not determine whether you're informed or not.

To quote Samuel L Jackson: English mother *****, do you speak it?

Please fully star out all swearing in future. Thank you.

It genuinely scares me that the majoriy are voting UKIP. That party represents everything that makes me ashamed to be a Brit. If they get in I will honestly consider emigrating elsewhere

Why is my decision not sensible and informed; because you don't like it? I have weighed my options and made a decision that I feel will have the most positive outcome for me.

The issue occurs when some people have a point of view that the believe then look for information to support that view, rather than looking for all information available and changing the view depending on what the evidence supports. The latter is how you get a properly informed view.

Everyone will put different weight on each bit of evidence which may lead to a different conclusion, but by having a defensible line of reasoning to why a bit of evidence has the weight it does leads to a defensible position in debate.

I do the same

Amongst many others are on it, in fact you're the only one i would consider 'left' that i have any time for. As you're the only one on that side of the spectrum that's articulate, rational and doesn't come across like a rabid communist. You do your views much credit and i will listen to them even if i do not agree with them

Because it's the most reactionary choice on the ballot paper.

If you don't don't agree with their policies, why vote for them?.

Whilst I'm not sure if it will be a majority overall (this forum doesn't really represent the wider country lets face it), are you surprised?

Take a set of disenchanted voters - rightly so - throw in some punchy one liners, clever marketing, and appeal on a single contentious issue to cover up the fact that you don't really have any policies, and people will vote for you in droves.

Conservatives - debatable whether they've done a decent job or not, I can understand why people won't vote for them
Labour - who would honestly vote Labour, especially with Ed miliband in charge (and yes I realise these are EU elections, not the GE, but people tend to vote along party lines anyway)?
LibDem - Can't see them getting many votes again for quite a while
Green - No real workable policies
UKIP - We love Britain, and want out of Europe.

Oh my word, and you deign to lower yourself to post about it on the OcUK forums?

So, you don't have a well informed decision? It's ok to say so.

I see voting in these elections about as useful as voting on x-factor and I've never done that either.

Think of me as a 21st century conquistador. I am bringing the light of civilization to the dark corners of the world.

So, you don't have a well informed decision? It's ok to say so.

I've explained why my decision is well informed. By all means question how sensible it is, that would make more sense.

I suppose you're right but reguardless, the majority of people I've talked to seem to feel the same way, people I thought I knew and respected. Whilst a political opinion does not represent a person as a whole, and I certainly feel a little ashamed of the fact I'm judging people on that alone, there's just something not right about it...

On a similair note, a promotional UKIP poster I saw a few days ago has now been replaced by a Wolfenstein one... I Lol'd a little
