We've seen account sharing mentioned quite often lately in regards to multiple people sharing PS4/XB1 accounts to get digital games cheaper by sharing the cost between two or more people. We're not comfortable with these discussions taking place on the forum as it will almost certainly break the EULAs of both Sony and MS. So, from now on, please do not mention or discuss account sharing as a viable way of getting games.

This isn't up for debate, this is merely for info and will serve as a future warning to all. Please keep this thread bumped for a few days to make sure everyone sees it.

Thank **** for that, I will no longer have to read Psycho Sonny's posts about how amazing it is to get cheap digital games.

:p

Stickies tend to be ignored so I thought I'd leave this open for comment for now. I'll likely just end up making a "rules" thread and stick it in there.

Completely understand this decision. I only bumped into this the other day in the 'are you going digital thread'. Reminds me of the rampant PS3 sharing abuse of games that resulted in more aggressive DRM (Eurogamer news item link)

Because I think stickies are vital in laying down the rules of a forum I would suggest re-organising them as follows in this sub-forum (good example of stickies here: NFLUK Forum example):

  • Sticky 1 - No piracy, ROMS, chipping, flashing unofficial firmware or game sharing discussion (so includes this new rule).
  • Sticky 2 - Nintendo/Microsoft/Sony Online Gamertags and ID thread (further links to each system's thread as it seems silly to have two stickes for MS gamertags taking up space at the top of the sub-forum). Or reduce to just 3 threads, so one for each online service.

Also the naming of these sticky threads needs to stand out more if possible, i.e. caps to begin the sticky post name.

Please feel free to disregard but wanted to make the suggestion.

While I dont have an issue with it, its damn chavish to boast about it constantly. Its up there with buying games on instant free credit...

ps3ud0

But Very let me pay off a £40 over 3 months! It's a no brainer  That will look great on my credit report when I apply for a mortgage.

oh well will need to remind myself not to post about it in future.

i was just informing other people that there is an easy way to get cheap digital games, I hope it helped a few other members get some cheap games and save them some money, it wasn't boasting it was telling other members theres a way to get games for cheap.

it's funny how when other people post about blatant copyright infringement in GD in particular the things I have purchased thread, nobody comes up with a new rule banning all talk of it, etc. in fact their pictures are not removed and they are allowed to post files which break copyright laws to other members through trust.

plus there was a guy advocating buying dodgy sky which costs less than 10% of the price of legit sky and nothing was done about that in the home cinema section, which is completely against sky's terms and conditions, etc.

so i'm not the only offender on here of breaking some terms and conditions, it's all over the forums.

then you have the guys selling coins to each other in the fifa thread.

Is it so hard to say "fair enough, I'll shut up about it now" instead of trying to argue your stance?

A decision has been made, move on Sonny.

I'd have to agree with Sonny, there are odd rules in place on some sub forums, like in the 'movies I watched last night' thread, you see posters saying I watched 'x' film after it appears for download, and nothing gets said, yet here you need photographic proof you own a game before release date so you can say 'I have it'.

There is little consistency.

That's overclockers though. I once got a suspension for posting a link that had a sweary in yet a mod in the motors section did the exact same thing and that's fine.

Posting on a forum when you should be doing work is probably against most companies policies as well should we ban people doing that?

Now you're just being pedantic.

Just to be clear, this rule wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, though I have noticed Sonny mentioning it. In respect to other areas of the forum, I can't comment on them. The games forums are my primary concern and I'm the one who suggested this rule. I know some people won't like it and I apologise for that. However, my first responsibility is to the forum and I have to be aware that the forum, and by nature, the shop, can't be seen to be advocating the illegal sharing of games.

What I will say is that a mod team, we try to be as consistent as possible across all the forums, but we know we'll never get it 100% right. If anyone sees something they feel breaks the rules, or is against the spirit of the forum, either RTM it or contact a moderator directly. Every RTM is read, and although not all of them are dealt with, you can be assured they are all considered.

I don't want to derail this with indepth discussion of forum moderation though. I'm happy to discuss anything privately with people if they feel the need. I can be contacted through my Trust.

XeNoN, if you have nothing useful to add to the discussion please don't bother posting. That goes for anyone who thinks this rule is stupid, OTT or whatever.
