Well, my title pretty much says what i need to know.
A friend of mine would sell his to me for a cheap price its brand new just been booted on to see if it works it would come with a waterblock, he couldn't go ahead and use it seeing as real life issues came first..
So are they still worth it today? Im not sure thats why im asking you genius's

It is pretty much, with the exception of the 295x2 and the yet-to-be released Titan-Z, the fastest single card solution you can buy. I would say anything under £400 and it is tremendous value. Will certainly be a chunk faster than your 290, although perhaps not in some games that don't support crossfire.

Agree, coming from someone that owns one (I got in before the price went through the roof) I cannot recommend them enough.

The only issue I have had is a couple of games that don't support crossfire for example COH2 which is annoying but in any case you still basically have a single 7970 working, which is enough anyway.

It eats games up and then some.

Currently its still the second most powerful single card you can buy, if you can get it for a good price its worth getting. Annihilates 1080p and runs incredibly well on Eyefinity resolutions.

Prone to coil whine and consume more power when idle and load compared to the GTX690 and titan.

7990 is more powerful than both. And the OP hasn't been offered any of those cards at a good price. As mentioned, at present, the 7990 is the second fastest single card you can buy. Anything under £400 i would bite his hand off. Also, we don't care about power consumption :D

+1

Who cars about a few extra watts when you have a ultra high performance gaming computer.

I have had mine for about 8 months and I still love it.

It does get very hot but mine is air cooled only. Max temps I get with my setup is about 73C and that is with the fans on 100 when the card gets to 70C.

Works perfectly on every game I have played maxed out!

£300 is a very good price but £350 is a fair price currently. Though your offering is brand new. Love my 7990. i5 bottlenecks it a bit but i7 lets it run at full tilt.

Don't listen to SNIPS he was saying the x295 was hot and noisy the other day.

For around £300 it would be worth it. If it's closer to £400 then you start to get into 290p crossfire territory.
