R9 280X vs GTX 770

Lol just about the age to pick up the atari 2600 Joystick. I was 6 at the time and playing some old time classics.

Hehe! I was born in '93 but have still enjoyed playing Elite and it's sequels via open source rejigs like Oolite and Pioneer.
I think Elite Dangerous looks gorgeous! And so impressive that they've got the whole Milky Way galaxy ingame! (or an approximation of it, filled out with procedural generation)
I just need to choose a good GPU for it!!!!

Either one will play this game really well. For the reason's i mentioned above i would choose the 280x over the gtx770 every time. It's mainly for piece of mind knowing that the 1gb extra vram along with the bigger bus won't ever hold the card back.

One of the first ever mario games as well simply called Mario Bros. Donkey Kong was the main foe. Frogger was also a classic.

The 680 / 670 and 7970 / 7950 had the same things said many moons ago, Here we are taking about the same futuristic vram usage and bus bandwidth that makes no difference unless your using 1600p or higher.

Most if the people who had the above cards don't have them now anyway including me and it was not because of lack of vram but more due to lack of gpu power.

Yet over in the wolfenstein thread 2gb is not enough. HardOcp played a level with custom settings and the 2gb card folded due to not enough Vram. It's not gonna get any better from here on. The developers of the game obviously thought 2gb was not enough so blocked the ultra preset for 2gb and below at 1200p. Yes you can get it through setting custom setting but then you run out of Vram. Anyhow like i say piece of mind. Why take the risk when there's no need to?

Exactly it's not like there's a major difference in price. The last time i checked getting more for the same or less was a good thing.

Used to play that along at my mates. It was still pretty addictive at the time. his machine had a controller that you used to turn back and forward for the up and down motion.

No if you read the hardocp review they tried the custom settings and the 770 2gb ran out of ram. The same settings on the 280x were fine. At the lower settings the gtx770 was actually faster.
