R9 280X vs GTX 770

Why is it better than a 770.

It's not they are the same in real world gaming they are the same how can they perform the same but the 280 is better, I just don't understand.

 come on man?! I know it late but Christ..
If the op isn't interested in physx...

Picture it like this if you can:

You're looking to buy a car, it's got to be quick and last a few years..as money is tight and you don't have the cash to change every year..
So you make tracks and head to your nearest showroom, the dealer shows you two cars that fit your budget, both cars have the same engine, are just as fast as each other, same looks but have different features inside, but you don't car for that gimmicky crap and just want a solid car that lasts..

Car one comes with 1 years warranty(770)

car two comes with 2 years warranty(280)

Does that make sense? I'm half cut and tired, but what I was trying to say is that the 280x gives more..it's not faster.. But it's the better card.

Bigger memory bus and more vram.. Picking the 770 would be like having a twosome when you could have had a threesome :p.

Like I said 8 hours ago until someone brought vram into the discussion making out that vram meant anything at all to the performance of said cards.

Ranger you think I am clueless because 2 cards perform the same and 1 card has a free game the op actually wants equalling cheaper? I thought amd users were all for bang for buck?

I see no issue other than vram means jack to any game currently out on mid range cards.

You think my Lightning with the block was cheap?

I hate that Nonsense . I can afford any card i like. Price is not the reason i currently use 290 crossfire.

It might only be nonsense to you and me, but its used many times in these kind of threads, And if the 280x was cheaper i am sure it would have been mentioned already.

Gentleman, welcome to the land of the Barbarian.

You can't really go wrong with either card, ultimately the choice could come down to if you want the better warranty from MSI or the free games you get from HSI. I don't buy into this 'bigger memory bus' crap, if the performance is the same or slightly better then what does it matter?

And this is with very old drivers (Imagine the gains AMD has now on their Tahiti), I thought NV was better with drivers than AMD. But it doesnt seem to matter here :P.

Hmm. Is it really as cut and dry as that?
Having done a little research, it seems that the MSI does perform fractionally better than a 280x in many situations despite the smaller amount of vram.
I wish I could find a comparison between these two specific models though.
As for deal-sweeteners, I know the AMDs come with 3 free games, but the MSI does come with Watch Dogs - a title I'm interested in playing.
Gah! I just don't know!
Anyone else want to weigh in with an opinion!?
Thanks gang.

Cut and dried. Only thicky Yanks should get this wrong.

From the Sleeping Dogs thread

4 GPU setups

1. Score 216.2, GPU nvTitan @981/1789, CPU 3930k @5.0 Kaapstad Link 337.5 drivers
2. Score 186.7, GPU 690 @1160/1800, CPU 3960x @4.9 Kaapstad Link 337.5 drivers
3. Score 182.7, GPU 290X @1230/1625, CPU 4930k @4.7 Kaapstad Link 14.4 drivers
4. Score 98.9, GPU 590 @613/855, CPU i7 980x @4.2 Kaapstad Link 320.49 drivers
5. Score 85.2, GPU 5970 @725/1200, CPU i7 975 @4.2 Kaapstad Link 13.8 drivers.

I wonder what went wrong here.:D

The gap between the 290Xs and the GTX 690s would have been even bigger if I was using 13.XX drivers, they were only good for about 160fps.:D

280X/HD 7970 is slightly faster than a GTX 770
