Equipment stolen from company car, who is liable?

Well it's done and done now, beyond my control whatever I think.

She had the grievance meeting which according to their HR was the first one they've ever had; the HR representative was apparently visibly nervous. In writing:
  • The company is going to change update a lot of procedures and practices
  • Two people have had formal discipline procedures initiated against them
  • Monies owed will be paid in full
  • She is not liable for any thing
  • Contracts and fleet manual will be updated and employees notified that they are not to be held liable should a similar situation occur in future
  • They have offered to pay for the replacements of her Ophthalmoscope, Volk and Retinascope (about £2,000) which was her own personal equipment
  • Formal written apology

I'm of course sceptical as to what the company says it will do, but we can only they do take it seriously. It was ultimately her decision and I respect it, I also think it takes a lot of balls to go to a grievance meeting. As I've said to her many times throughout the situation, the money is obviously important but we could have afforded it if we really had too, my main concern was her and what it was visibly doing to her.

It's done, she's happy and we can move on :).

Good news at the end of the day!

Hope they follow through with what they've got in writing and nice touch on their part to offer to pay for your wife's personal equipment.

Good result with her own equipment being replaced. Fingers crossed they don't give any aggro sorting it out.

Good result but can't help but feel like they got off slightly since they did break the law regarding the payment deductions.

yea I bet they would have had a huge fine or something for paying below minimum wage or at least a lot of legal expenses.

Probably why the HR rep was visibly shaking hoping your missus would take their token gesture but I can understand why your missus would just want it all to be over with.

If you would have stayed im sure you may of taken them to the cleaners? I sure would have done.

Glad you got the outcome you wanted really though and its a **** you both had all this stress and hassle
