Anybody else feel like gaming has not advanced enough in recent years to keep on trend with previous milestones like the release of Doom3/FarCry, or the last-gen of consoles?

Take for example Wolfenstein TNO, the graphics really are not anything special, they have a very much generic feel. I know the recent recession has a lot to answer for, but I really long to get excited by major graphical advancements again.

Gaming has been stagnated by false promises, e.g Watch dogs, they make it sound like you can do a lot of fun stuff then it just turns out to be utter ******** by release.

I actually feel that graphics are keeping games behind because people are worried about them too much. Do not misunderstand me though, I do enjoy a stunning game as much as the rest of you all but when the graphics are cared about more then the gameplay, that is where the problems lie I believe. Just my opinion.

I would say gaming is far from stagnated its probably the best its ever been, there is such huge diversity that graphics to me don't even cross my mind any more. There is far more out there to be enjoyed then just looking at some pretty.

I certainly think that gaming is stagnating, but it is nothing whatsoever to do with graphics, which are always fine by me. I have played lots of games recently that look great, but are severely let down by poor gameplay. To name a few, Tomb Raider, AC4, Sleeping Dogs, Arkham City...Now Watch Dogs looks the same(looks great, with boring gameplay). They all suffer from the same restrictiveness that makes them far less enjoyable than they should be.

Atm I am playing through Arkham City, a game which looks great, has some great level design, great combat, a great story which is presented well, yet I pretty much just sit back and do what the game tells me to, and so I find it very hard to enjoy it....and by far the biggest problem I have with modern games is their insistence on 'game over' outside of combat.

PC gaming is stagnated due to the fact that there's nothing truly exciting to play, in regards to shooters they are all very similar or sequels..... you dont often get something really good like Dishonored, because another Dishonored is definitely somewhere out there; they're just too scared to make it, too scared of failure.....so we keep getting Crysis...Far Cry ...BF4....and boring Borderlands DLCs that drag out the main game for another 1.5 years!!!!!

so the Graphics is ok, it's the lack of inventiveness/ creativity; same thing, that's the problem..... i.e why is DOOM 4 so hard to make ????????? because in my opinion it's got to be the easiest game in the world to make ! we all know what it's like to be scared and what sh**s us up...come on get on with it !!!:mad::mad::mad:

It's not stagnated, we're just moving to the end of a cycle. Unreal Engine 4 games are set to come out soon and they'll look amazing.

you're a shooter..... the gameplay has to be right first.........graphics is of secondary importance..... the best shooter was FEAR, but it's graphics is horrid by todays standards, but it never seemed to matter back then !!!!

if you notice the graphics too much then the shooting is probably too easy and boring, you need to be gaming scared stiff/terrified as if you're about to die around the next corner, there are a few games like this, but they're all from years ago, strangely enough not recently.

it's a combination of low health/ tactical shooting, the need to use cover, combined with Claustrophobia, pure fear and no flipping idea where the terrorists are !!! :D

BUT this type of shooter wont make you loads of money..... so most will opt for COD/ BF, everyone at work plays these games, they've never played Dishonored or Serious Sam, they've never even heard of the games i play !!!!!

Not really, if anything taking focus off of graphics and onto aspects that improve the gameplay has meant more interesting games are being made and also there is a more diverse user/playerbase.

If you mean are graphics in pc games stagnant atm then this is possibly true but it's probably more down to the fact the majority of big developers are paid to make console games and port them to the pc :( (or even in some cases develop for mobile/tablets and port to pc)

The one thing that gets boring with PC Gaming at the moment is types of games trending and companies jumping on the idea :(

Look at all the MOBAs at the moment :(
Previously it was all the MMOs or WoW clones :(
Previous to that it was Counterstrike styled FPS games :(

What will be next?

The original games are actually good, it's just the dumbing down and copying that gets boring.

good graphics is one thing, but it doesnt make a game. for me its a combination of focusing heavily on graphics and nothing else combined with the rise of the lol360noscopecodfags that have ruined a lot of games, single player stories end up being good but short and lacking in overall substance because multiplayer is such a heavy focus. its become more of a sport of he who has the fastest reflexes and fastest internet wins, and thats just not enjoyable.

no wonder there's only 3 games i play multiplayer and none of them are graphics orientated [minecraft, civilisation and guns of icarus]. everything else has to have a good long single player or i'm not interested.

truly imaginative and create groundbreaking cant be done by large studios it is too much of a risk for the companys.

one bad big budget and you can be over.

tomb raider for eg sold 6 million units and didnt even make a profit.

so if you want a creative title which will be more fun you need to look and maybe kickstarts new franchises just starting out while fresh before the money men get in.

consoles govern what happens now by the big boys as thats the big pay day they need. so you not going to get a crysis 1 doom 3 f.e.a.r style push in any games soon as it hurts there bank to do that.

Don't worry, our saviors are here

I call bs on that. there wouldnt be a sequel already in the works if they didnt make money and if 6m is not enough there is sth wrong going on within the publisher.

call bs on it it was well published they didn't make a penny on it.
