Injured baby Magpie ;(

Rats are amazing pets, my other half has 10 of them. I was a bit skeptical at first when she said she wanted them but I love them to bits! I like them better than dogs/cats.

I agree. I have had Rats for some time now, they're clever and make excellent pets. Shame they don't live very long!

The inspector should come tomorrow if its still alive, he will access the situation and take it to a vet for proper care if he feels it can be saved, keeping my fingers crossed.

Hope it made it through the night and can be saved.

Dump it back out in the garden and let nature do the rest.... they are a pest.

I once witnessed 4-5 of them attacking a cat - and when I say attacking, they were temping it and actually pecking at it while it hid in a bush. I had to scare them away and calm the cat down. They do zero good to the food chain and usually steal smaller birds eggs before they get a chance to hatch.... Most people here would regard them as vermin anyway.

They are also responsible for scaring off smaller birds from your garden (Robins, sparrows etc) and pretty much descimate Bee populations if you have flowers or plants.

That poor cat; all it wanted to do was play with one if those nasty birds. Maybe throw it around the garden a bit, tap it to wake it up when it's had enough, let it start escaping before jumping on it again, and then maybe take it home to flail around the cat's owner's kitchen floor. Nasty, evil birds.

Yeah it sucks they have such a short life, but they sure make a fun time of what they have. Put the remains of a Sunday roast chicken in the cage the other day, one of them walked off with a whole leg in its mouth :D the thing looked so silly carrying this leg that probably weighed more than it does

Zero good for the food chain? With all due respect, stop talking ****.

Every animal in the natural world has a function in the food chain, it simply wouldn't exist otherwise.

Just watched a crow take on two magpies in our garden. It saw them both off easily and gave a loud 'CAWWW' which I translated as 'Not on my manor you don't, I'm the daddy round here.'

The last one I saw here was enormous and would have seen off a cat.

agreed - i've seen a gang of 5-6 literally peck to death and eat a baby pigeon alive in my garden

they are a disgusting creature and should be exterminated - they're no better than rats

How about humans? We allow a chicken to live for about 6 weeks before it's processed and used for your next meal. They should normally live for about 5 years.

Magpies are just doing what they've got to do to survive, just like us.

Exactly this. People have have this misplaced idea that we can judge nature forgetting the millions upon millions of animals we give crap and terrible lives to

had a few day old magpie in the garden the other day hopping around the flowerbeds.

next day there was an almighty racket in the garden, loads of magpies making loads of noise. went out to see what was happening, and there was the baby magpie dying on the patio being attacked by three full grown adults.

Maybe it was a gang initiation jump in?

You should rip the meat off it & eat it, See How he likes the taste of his own medicine.

A small difference is a magpie has a means of escape. A chicken is essentially dead if it has no means of shelter.

Wandered out of work (night shift) one morning. 3 magpies and 2 crows sat in a tree making quite a bit of noise.

Then the cat that had gone to ground behind a drainpipe nearby tried to make a bolt for it and they all took off and lined up "bombing" runs, chased the poor moggie most of the way down the road :D
