Hi

I have just got an IPad Air but it wont charge when i connect it to my PC via the supplied cable.
Its as if it connects but in the top right it says not charging.
Also when it connects it doesnt come up with the Autoplay options on the windows folders to import pictures or open deviceto view files.
I want to drop some videos in there that i dont have in Itunes.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
I have tried this with another cable as well .Both mine and my Wifes iphones connect and start charging straight away and get the autoplay options.
Also tried with her new ipad mini and has the same issues.

Cheers

The iPad power draw for charging is higher than that of the iPhones. So you need to charge using the mains charger or see of you have a high powered USB which is fed directly of the PSU - my case has this and the iPad see's it as a normal port.

Oh right ok.But shouldnt autoplay kick in so i can open to view the folders in Windows.I want to just make a folder on my ipad and drag and drop some videos into is as they are not in itunes

As far as I know you'll only be able to see photos (DCIM) folder via windows explorer/autoplay on iOS if you've ticked the right box in iTunes before hand.

To copy videos to it (assuming you want to watch them), you'll either need them in iTunes (and I assume the correct format) or use the app like AVPlayerHD on the iPad then use the app-view/explorer in iTunes to copy stuff too it

Think i have air video server. Will see if that can convert it into an itunes format.
Checked all USB ports and no joy lol.
Cant find the settings for the DCIM folder in ITunes

it's been a while since I last used iTunes but I thought it was on the summary page of the iPad. just a tick box, but it may have changed now?

It ended up charging off my pc in the end.I left it converting with air video server and when i checked 2 hours later it was fully charged lol

Most modern motherboards have the ability to supply higher current to the USB ports, enabling rapid charging of even high-draw devices like iPads. Check the manufacturer's website as they'll often have a utility you download and install to enable this. My Gigabyte motherboard will charge my iPad as fast as the mains charger and even maintains power to the USB port after I turn the machine off.
