I'm planning to do drivers license during the summer holidays, now my dad's cars are way too high in the insurance group for me to get insured on one of them. So I'm planning on buying a VW Polo or Ford Fiesta, I don't know much about these cars. My budget is also pretty low around 1k, maybe 1,5k at most (I'm still a student...).

That's the cars I was thinking about, but I'm opened to 'better' offers. ;)

Polo will likely require a bit less in the way of maintenance/last a bit longer though I'm a bit out of touch with the more recent models. Fiesta possibly a little less sparse inside for the money.

I've also reccomended the 1.5 CDI Clio in the past due to the fuel economy and that ones around that price usually will have done enough miles to iron out/have rectified some of the original issues and be a fairly easy car to drive.

EDIT: Focus v Fiesta as mentioned by Janesy B could be an interesting one to look into as there is a bit of an insurance oddity in regards to them quite a few students find that for some reason the Focus is vastly cheaper to insure compared to the Fiesta (probably due to stereotypes).

You might want to broaden your search past gocompare if you want any meaningful quote. Also, don't bother with fully comp on a car worth a grand.

What sites do you recommend and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. But comp comes out to be cheaper than 3rd party

Doesn't say excess...

Which is irrelevant since if it's a third party claim no excess will be payable anyway and if you get third party insurance you won't be eligible to claim for anything on your own car that's your fault vs with fully comp where you have the option of paying the excessive excess.
Plus fully comp gives you other benefits normally like windscreen cover.

Might want to also rethink trim levels to get quotes down. A Zetec is more expensive to insure than an LX for example. As you can see the fully comp Polo S is the cheapest to insure and would be cheaper than an SE or anything above that again. Insurance quotes just don't revolve around engine sizes / types and age.

Thanks for that, I thought its all about the 'size' :p
You're not doing anything wrong. In recent years fully comprehensive insurance has pretty much always been cheaper for me than 3rd party.

Fully comp car insurance is cheaper - until you hit 40
That's good news :)
Doesn't look like you have anyone else insured on it with you, often adding a parent/older person will bring down the quote

Hawker
Doesn't matter who I put on the insurance, it goes up...
My dad has had his license for over 22 years and has 7-8 years no claim discount.

Try changing the policy start date to a few weeks out, sometimes insurers will bump the price if the start date is close to the current date.

Insurance is all about discrimination.

Fully comp always seems cheaper when you're getting quotes like that back, better off making a few calls and getting the cheapest TPFT policy you can. You can add windscreen cover on third party anyway.
