Hi Guys,

My girlfriend's birthday is coming up and I'm hoping to take her somewhere decent in Londontown.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I've got the Duck & Waffle in the Heron Tower in mind at the moment.

Anywhere central/city based is ideal as that's where we live.

Thought I'd see what OcUK might recommend!

I was at the Duck and Waffle last night. Total nonsense; most City bars/restaurants are all style and no substance.

Head over to the west end/mayfair for much better stuff. Gauthier in soho is awesome.

Thanks chaps. Yes I've been warned that the Duck and Waffle can often be swarmed with city types.

I too thought that perhaps a more traditional restaurant towards West London might be better. Any recommendations?

PapaLazaru - thanks for the heads up on that one. I didn't actually know that the Shard had a restaurant in it!

I'll start with Pollen Street Social, which has a lovely menu and very good service. It is especially good if you request to sit at the dessert bar for your dessert. You get to watch them prepare it for you, and chat to them as they do, and you can also see into the kitchen which is interesting. Makes the meal a little bit more special.

Galvin at Windows could be really nice, it's on the 28th floor of the London Hilton on Park Lane. If you request a window table you could have, depending on the time and weather, a stunning view across London.

I'll also mention Petrus and The Ledbury. Both lovely restaurants and worth visiting on a special occasion, although a little bit more pricey.

I haven't been, but perhaps The Foyer At Claridge's and Clos Maggiore would be good choices for a romantic meal.
