My girlfriend wants to use giff gaff pay as you go sims, for herself and her daughter. My gf has a Nokia lumia 800 and daughter a iPhone 4s both are now out of contract. Question is will they need unlocking to use giff gaff sims?

Try a sim card an find out. What provider were the hand sets on? Gig GAF resel O2's network so if they are O2 handsets it will work reguardless.

Looks like the Nokia will work it said giff gaff when it came on. Not tried the iphone yet.

It depends where you bought the phone from. Usually when you buy it from the network directly it's locked. Places like CPW and P4U usually sells unlocked phones.

3 now sell unlocked phones and now offer to unlock any 3 network locked phones for free.
My guess would be Voda would need unlocked but hopefully a phone call would sort that too.

Haven't tried the 3 network phone yet but the Nokia which is vodaphone came up saying giff gaff after she put the sim in and turned it on although the sim isn't activated yet.

CPW iPhone's are nasty, they are unlocked until you put a SIM in them, then they lock themselves to that network!

Except for iPhones, which are locked to the network of the first SIM card inserted (only iPhones purchased directly from an apple store are unlocked out of the box).

Dunno if its changed but Voda used to be a bit of a pain to get phones unlocked - if you weren't in a current rolling contract with them for the phone they usually want you to put like £20 on it before they will unlock :S
