Hey guys,

Build a PC for my mate and just wanted to run a build by you, where going for a M-ATX build and I was able to stop him from picking a horrible case with LEDs everywhere and finally agreed on a the 350D. Already have HDD so just need an SSD and also a Blu ray drive.

Thinking to start off with this, and hopefully build on top going forward. Thinking to just add some braided cables later on, and a few white LEDs.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 280X TurboDUO 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £229.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £173.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming 5 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £119.99
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £119.98
1 x Corsair Obsidian 350D Windowed Micro ATX Case - Black (CC-9011029-WW) £79.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99

Total : £906.78 (includes shipping : £19.10).

Is 290 a waste on 1080p? Thinking maybe to up the PSU a bit, and just tell him to pick another 280x up when the 3xx series or whatever drops 2nd hand and that should keep him gaming at max for a good amount of time.

H100i in combination with Win8.1 is a pain in the rear.

Its too complicated and the Link software is a pain too.

Google it,

H100i and Windows 8.1

Also

Pink LED H100i

See what you find.

The issues can be fixed with some faffing about, but its certainly not fit and use fully out of the box.

tbh, as you get free shipping, i would say wait for TWO deals on some of the parts, you can shave at least another 40 quid off this build. this week's deals are ****
the only stuff worth getting this week is the case, ram and psu and bluray drive

Wow, nice call totally not worth it.

Thanks for the shout out, TBH some parts we will get of the rain forest since my mate has £400 in voucher there, so I think we will get a case/SSD and not sure what else, might save the rest for a monitor and I will pick up the PSU/Ram/Blu ray from OCUK this weekend.

Also with devil Canyon due soon I'm guessing the price of the CPU might drop then after that it will only raise.

Went to shall out with my mate today and discuss everything, we have basically settled on the below spec. We finally went up too a 450D case so we can use a ATX Motherboard, upped the budget too (he just had his bday and got a lot of money) so up to 290, and included a new monitor. PSU is also been upped a bit, mostly cause its modular and a good brand, wouldn't mind something cheaper as long as its modular. Also a gaming keyboard and mouse combo, don't need anything super fancy.

Budget is now £1200-£1300

sli capable board with a free headset too
290 with a better cooler
4770k instead of the 4650k
dropped the hdd to 1tb, but better quality hdd
upped the psu to 850w modular, so you dont have to change the psu to add a 2nd 290 for xfire
i use the same monitor as specced (e2473) its a good quality screen
chucked in a dvdrw for good measure
changed the case to reduce costs a bit, still a good quality case though
you get free shipping, so its bang on budget

Is there any other advantage for the Mobo, he already has a pretty high end headset from our CoD days XD. Could always sell it but its added work.

Good call on the 290, was actual learning towards it anyways.

Any reasons to get a better HDD, its only really going to be used to store Media.

Thanks for the PSU.

Rest seems pretty cool, might still stick with the 450D and see how it goes, will include the i7.

the gaming 3 has killer nic, uprated audio and supports tri-fire, it's only a few quid more than the z97x-sli and you can easily recoup the costs and a bit more by selling the headset
if you run regular backups, then by all means get the cheaper hdd. but personally, i wouldnt skimp on a good quality hdd

Alright thanks for the feedback guys, will up the PSU too 850watt, makes sense since we could just xfire after 2 years and get double performance on the cheap. Will also go with the Gaming 3 Motherboard, not too sure the HDD is worth it, it won't hold anything important, worst case he loses some media that he can download again.

We shall discuss the i7 as his dead set on either a 350/450D and it tips the budget closer to £1400 with both that and a i7, which is a bit less then ideal.

Final spec it seems, everything coming together well, thinking to have a red LED strip either on the front of the case or top, then the white light coming form the back or the floor. Give it a nice glow, added in some better fans for the radiator too.

Thanks for all the help guys, will try get some pictures up hopefully.
