Hey guys,

Just wanted to get you guys views on what card you could get away without bottlenecking the cpu listed in the title.

It's for a friend and not to sure of the additional specs but was a prebuilt system from ocuk so the psu should be at least half decent.

He was thinking of getting a 2nd hand 7950 but is this pushing it too far? Also open to other recommendations :D

For 2nd hand, go for a 7850 2GB. Even a 5850 would get bottlenecked, but 1GB vram is not enough for games at 1920 res thesedays, so might as well go for a 7850 2GB.

And he should really overclocked his CPU to 3.60-3.80GHz to help with reducing the bottleneck.

It's not like he can't upgrade the cpu as well. Phenom ii x4s are pretty cheap or put a fx 6300 in there if the mb will take it.

My second comp has a ph x3 @3 ghz and a r9 270 and plays games at high and ultra well at 1080p.

This.

But that CPU is pretty weak no matter what you do to it. a used Phenom II x4 is much better and will drop right into the motherboards socket, you can find them for around £50.

Something like an X4 955 or 965 would be ideal for a 7870 'ish card.
