Hi guys,

I recently installed a new Asus Z97 Deluxe - non NFC&Thunderbolt and cant get all of the sata ports working.

According to the manual 6 of the ports are on the Intel controller and 4 on the Asmedia ccontroller. But I can only get 4 of the Intel ones to function. The BIOS shows ports 5 & 6 greyed out?

I have messed about with all of the controller settings but nothng enables them.

any one else got this issue or can offfer an answer?

oh nearly forgot to mention that there is nothing in the 3rd PCI-e slot at I know this can enable/disable all sorts of stuff - its a minefield so I left it empty!

cheers

under advanced PCH storage config ive got

auto
auto
ACHI
Disabled
S.M.A.R.T status check on

all six sata6G Showing with hot plug disabled,

ive got a sound card in first PCIEX1_1 and graphics in PCIEX16_2

The only difference with my setup BIOS-wise is that I have RIAD instead of ACHI.

The only card in the system is my 290X

My initial thoughts are immature bios releases which Asus have excelled at in the past!

To be honest im sending my z97 deluxe back as had nothing but trouble cannot get a stable overclock at all with constant WHEA errors and reboots for no reason and doner a full rebuild with new CPU and ddr3

i tried setting mine to RAID and a reboot but shows all sata6 ports

I cant enable hot-plug as they are greyed out.

I am starting to think that this is one of the few "misses" for Asus. Looking around the interweb there are so many issues with this board. the whole sharing bandwidth with slots/chips/devices/anything lottery is just hell!

I will carry on though as its cost me £180 so the answer is out there, though I feel its a BIOS update rather than settings.

just a point but why can you change the fan settings/ramps but the BIOS always hangs at some point while doing so!

aarrgghh

bios needs to mature imo, bugs are to be expected atm

I still don't know why its greyed out though, its working for delpy

auto

ACHI
Disabled
S.M.A.R.T status check on

whats the disabled one for? looked to see if you can enable the asmedia sata ports?

What kind of other problems are people having? Any who cannot get a stable overclock on 4.2 at 1.20v

hi ploppy can you do me a favour and check which cpu cover/shield came with your mobo

Ive got two and dont want to screw about trying to fit it back on as Im returning it to overclockers
is it the one that says FOXCONN or the one that says LOTES

Thanks

I don’t think I have it anymore but will have a look about.

As for overclocking my 4770K it’s giving terrible results. The entire thing turns to jelly as soon as you try anything.

The entire platform seems unstable to be honest. I have found simple things like installing the AI Suite just locks up the machine and some games now just crash to the desktop without error but crash nonetheless.
The situation in magnified by using Win8.1 and is slightly more stable in Win7 but it’s still not right by any means.

thats the kind of thing im getting but got a gigabyte gaming 7 coming tommorrow fedup with ASUS

its a sad day really as I have been using Asus "Deluxe" models for 10+ years without issue. Gigabyte will be my next choice as well so I'm off to look at their webby for info.

it is indeed, I need to stop buying new things as soon as they come out,

Asus 4k monitor was ubbish and now this asus deluxe Im very hopeful that the gigabyte gaming 7 mobo will be fine,

I've got myslef a little stuck as my entire case/theme is blue. blue LED fans/waterblock lLEDS/UV fluid etc etc even down to the blue thumbscrews so a lot of boards are out because they are red!

The Asrock Extreme 9 when in stock will probably be my best option.

Why not get the extreme 6 not much difference :)

I'm being a tart for tarts sake really. the E9 has the PLX PEX 8747 Bridge so when I eventually go multi GPU the benefits will kick in.

its all silly really but................ might as well gel the best I can
