BMW and M Power Owners

Yeah you can ;)

It doesn't look very good mind, I only know as my mk4 dvd computer went pop and I took it out and still had the headunit working

Oh really?!

I only deleted as I found the answer elsewhere saying that the screen was just a screen nothing more and it needs the computer to drive it.

I only ask because I'd like the screen to improve the dash and for my iPod, not really bothered about Nav.

Without the computer it looks seriously bad, think worse than old fashioned teletext. Plus you will still need radio modules etc. Its not a great option to consider retrofitting these days, if you want an OEM look screen then fit a Dynavin. :)

Without the navigation computer the screen can be driven by the TV tuner if fitted. The screen alone won't do anything.

Does anyone, of the top of their heads know the size of the next on the inlet tube going to the airbox on a 130i M Sport?

I'm looking at getting a open cone air intake setup. I know there are pretty much none around but I'm sure I could remove the airbox and stuff, stick on a Jetex and work something out.

Oh really?!

No, not really. the screen is just a screen and is driven by the navigation computer. It therefore requires the nav computer fitted to function correctly. As Olly points out, the TV tuner can also drive the screen on occasions when the nav computer has failed - but this is a very basic interface and it makes no sense to deliberately retrofit with just the TV tuner as it's no easier, no less hassle and only saves you about 100 quid.

The retrofit of the screen and associated stuff is a big job that IMHO is fundamentally pointless now its so thorughly dated.

Got a couple of questions regarding my E46 maintenance and thought I'd post here rather than make a new thread. It's a manual 2004 320Ci M-Sport. 98K now and it's due an oil service soon but was thinking about other general maintenance at the same time.

1. When should the spark plugs be changed. They were done at around 50K then suing an Inspection II at 87K the mechanic said they looked in good nick and didn't need changing.

2. Should the fuel filter and water pump be changed. According to BMW they shouldn't do unless troublesome.

3. Again if and when should power steering fluid be changed.

Thanks.

The spark plugs are changed at every Inspection 2 service. If you didnt have them changed at the last Inspection 2, then you didn't have an Inspection 2 because thats the main difference between an Inspection 1 and an Inspection 2.

The fuel filter is 'lifetime'. My E39 has 200k on its fuel filter so far.

The waterpump has no scheduled interval but they do go. If you are doing any other work in that area its a worthwhile preventative job.

Changing the fuel filter won't do any harm, especially if it's the original...but there's no real reason to do so if you don't suspect it's causing any harm.

Waterpump, if it's original then it might be worth changing it - then again it's a very simple diy

PAS fluid, similar story really - if it's original it won't do any harm changing it but again i'd just do it myself.

Bit odd having the 318 in there.

The 325 has had a new wing and the match isn't brilliant - they'll all need wings at some point but if you can find one that's either got a better match or in a colour that's easier to get right ( not silver though tbh grey should be easy) that'd be better. Way overpriced for an SE too

318 personally just wouldn't be interested, pointless car

330 £6.5k on a 2004 car would upset me greatly, particularly as its an auto with no mention of number of owners, service history or work carried out

Tbh mate I found three cars I liked the style of, engine size wasn't my initial thought... What wing on the 325 had been replaced?

So. Put of the three of them for mway driving, none of them lol...

The near side front wing has either been replaced or repaired then painted. You can see its very slightly darker than the surrounding panels. Its not the light as the bonnet and bumper would look the same. Its not a bad job from the photos but considering the silly money they want for the car I'd want it perfect. Its also on some cheapo tyres

All 3 are fine for motorway driving, the 318 just feels gutless and you'll forever wish you could hear a 6 cylinder when you put the foot down. Buying the 4 cylinder car makes no sense as there are other more modern cars that will require less mechanical looking after than it will. Plus they're slow...and sound boring

Thanks. Pretty much as I had thought.

As for the above, agree that's a fair bit to be spending on those motors. I paid £7.5K in Oct '08 for a 2004 320Ci with 40k on it.

+1 for a straight 6 though.:)

Ah sorry my bad, probably because I still had the tv tuner fitted when I took the nav drive out, thank god someone else stepped in :)

Can a few of guys look within the postcode g742aw, maybe within 100 miles and see if there are any good deals, max spend is £7000, either a coupe or a saloon.

Any colour apart from gold :)

Thanks

Ps bot my real postcode but close enough...

That was a very atypical deal - for example the equivalent today, a 2010 320i Coupe with 40k, is rather more than £7.5k!

Granted it was a good deal at auction with typical private sales in the region of 10 to 12K. But spending £6K on a 10 year old BMW isn't something I would take likely. Would definitely want to see a decent service history at the very least.
