Hello everyone,

I am looking to build a new gaming machine and would be extremely grateful for a few suggestions.

I currently have the below set up (sorry if it's not detailed enough):-

asrock extreme 4
3570k i5
kingston 120gb hyperx (boot)
Samsung f3 1tb (steam and games only)
seagate baraccuda 3tb (taken from external goflex)
2x WD Caviar Green 2TB (raid configuration for perishable data)
Corsair H60 Cooler
2x 4gb corsair dominator platinum 2133mhz
fractal design R4 Define Case
2x corsair sp120 on the back either side of my radiator.
2x corsair af140 on the front
Asus GTX670
OCZ Fatality 750W

My goal is to build a machine that will run 4K games at 60fps. I don't know how realistic this is right now or might be so expensive it's pointless I am not sure. if it is a case of running two GPU's that is fine or if I need a bigger case etc.

the plot twist is that my case is quiet and I like it that way. it currently runs front to back cooling
(not the most effective probably) I understand I may have to sacrifice this.
I also understand that newer or different processors may need more advanced cooling like a bigger radiator etc.
I don't mind putting extra sp120's on the top of the case in this case, but how effective is front to top cooling? and is it mega noisey?

I have my eye on a X9000B Series Sony 4k television upon the promise of HDMI 2.0 compatibility (so I can actually achieve 4k at 60fps)

Budget withing reason is around £1000 but presumably I will need new GPU's, processor, motherboard and case/cooling options and can keep the rest of the parts?

Thank you

You wont get a PC that can run 4K for £1000.

Instead swapping your GTX670 for a R9 295 maybe the only way to go, but then you need to make sure you have a good PSU.

All he needs is a few GPUs but then again 30FPS is a more realistic expectation. 60FPS is something we won't be seeing this year or the next. This all depends on the game of course, some games you'll be able to exceed 60 or get close.

I don't think three 7970's would cut it mainly due to vram at that res. Depends on the game/settings of course, but I doubt there'd be much, if any longevity in that setup.

Ideally want 4+GB cards.

need minimum 2 r9 290 for 4 k.. and to comfortably get 60fps prob need more gpu power. and an i5 would bottleneck.

and gaming on a 55" tv is crazy tbh lol

spend the £2500 on a monster pc and 28" 4k monitor. and the £1000 on a tv. Not a lot of 4k content available on the market so would be wasted

Thanks for the replies guys!

I think it's because I hail as a console gamer so I play everything on a 46in Bravia z series. I have an IPS panel but that's mainly for multitasking or typing.

I considered looking at 780ti's I am comfortable buying 1 or 2 and buying a 3rd another time if need be.

In regards to processor I have NO idea what I am looking at in regards to those. I am amateur at overclocking etc and all I see are clock speeds and prices. I need to considered temperatures and cooling methods with this I presume if I change.

This is exactly the kind of thing I need to know :) Thanks

I guess the big one is.. is it worth upgrading with multiple GPU's or does anyone think that the marketplace is going to leap anytime soon to satisfy this kind of gaming? Or will it take a long enough amount of time that it is worth me upgrading now to hit 30-45fps on 4K and then in a couple of years it will leap making my investment worthwhile. Obviously nobody can see into that future exactly but maybe speculate an educated guess based on previous movements.

Also I suppose if I will need a more advanced processor and will it need a bigger cooler/radiator etc and thus a bigger case etc and if I should cool it front to top instead of front to back.

so:-

Intel Core i7 4770K Haswell (Socket 1150) Quad Core, Eight Thread Processor Overclocked to at least 4.6GHz and a Asus Z87 Maximus VI Extreme (Socket 1150) ATX Motherboard
and a couple of mean GPU's and I am rolling? Is there an Nvidia option?

Spending loads of money and then using it on a TV is pointless IMO. I can imagine it leaving you disappointed for the money spent.

I also read the specs of that TV and I may be wrong but it seems to be limited to 30Hz. It says
3840 x 2160/30p
and I assume this means 30Hz?

TVs aren't made for PC gaming and will show that. It is OK as a temporary thing but not long term.

Edit:
But if I am correct about the TV and you are happy knowing that, you only need to go for 30FPS.

There is promise of a firmware update that will bring HDMI 2.0 compatibility which allows 2160/60p (allegedly) on newer models.

I will end up buying one of these displays because I watch a lot of film and I am excited for the 4k experience. I am sure I will always be missing out on the much much higher refresh rates of 4k monitors but it is preferred over a PS4. It's more of a ''most of I can get' I suppose at this stage.

Who said that?

I think you can keep price down by keeping your motherboard, sell your i5 and get a 3770k.

You don't need to upgrade one gen.
