Right lets begin...
It seems i haven't learnt my lesson since trying to do SLI or Xfire in a Matx case and i've hit the same wall again. My top card i've had for years now and is watercooled so runs like a dream. However my bottom card is aircooled with a reference cooler on it and runs like a jet turbine. I know what you're thinking, just slap another water block on it right? There's an issue with that... obviously to run both gpu's in a single loop i need or would need for minimum hassle 2 identical gpu blocks. But since my original waterblock for my top card is EOL, i can't find one anymore and i've scoured the net for one with no such luck. I don't have enough cash to buy 2 brand new identical blocks either as that would be nearing the £200 mark which for 2 old gpu's is quite mad.
I looked at getting a universal block for it with particular interest in the Watercool Heatkiller GPU X3 core LT with the VRM block attached. However for that kinda money i could buy a new case with better airflow which in turn could keep my temps down and therefore my Jet turbine tamed. The Heatkiller universal block is around £80 plus someone to cut the VRM block to size so it will fit will cost me as well so we're looking at over £100 for it to work. Or i could i get a NZXT H440 (Love the look and potential for this case) for £94.99 or cheaper at some places and help with airflow for the bottom card.
The bottom card has very little spacing below it, which suffucates it from air which is why it can hit temps of upto 95C even with an aggresive fan profile. I've changed the thermal paste on it which helped a little bit but not much. Fan speeds of upto 62% is just far too loud for me after being so use to a silent system for so long now.
So which should i go for? Whats the better outlay for the future? Get a universal block and try that out or get a new case in hopes the better airflow will lower the gpu temps and hence lower the gpu fan speed/noise.
My current case is a Parvum Systems S2.0 and moving to a NZXT H440 would be the case choice unless someone else knows a better watercooling case thats of similar size.
