Hey all.

MX5 got painted. Looks lovely.
MOT test today (<4 days after paint job) and it comes back with:
- fault 'cannot open near side door from inside or outside' - 2 failures which magically where not there for retest.
- Headlights out of line - Fine. I paid £10 to get it fixed.

The car was pristine. It now has a significant paintwork scuff ~1cm long on the passenger door, which I noticed and queried (obviously garage owner has no knowledge...). Also when I got home I found the interior door handle has a ~ 1 inch long piece snapped off it. I accept that it was not quite sat right, but to break it, leave a piece on the seat and not tell me is quite mechanic-is-a-**** attitude. Replacement door handle is about a fiver delivered.

Do I just suck it up? Needless to say I will never go there again, and my newly painted car was always going to get paint marks, but this soon has quite hacked me off. I am 90% sure any complaint would be peeing in the wind...but thought I would at least ask.

EDIT: Garage was Autokraft, Longton, Stoke On Trent.

If you're not going to use them again then cause hell. You probably won't get anywhere but it will make you feel less like you've been walked over.

First, ask them.
Then buy the cheapest running van/car etc and spray paint something to the effect of 'they broke my car' and park it outside.
Then take it away when they pay you to.

This ^^ , then burn it with fire, and poo through his letter box

A good few years ago now but I went to collect my car from an AA garage after a service to find that whilst backing the car into a parking space they'd managed to back it into a bloody skip. Not a word was said whilst I paid and collected the paperwork. I found it when I walked to the car. Had to leave the car there for the rest of the day whilst they "investigated". They paid for a body shop to fix it and I never went back there for servicing.

..while adopting boxing stance, of course.
MOT tester is a round, mis-spelt offal-based foodstuff.

the fact that they raised problems with the interior handle - then it magically appeared broken has to be proof enough that they broke it. Take it up with the center manager asap!

Not acceptable, definitely take it up with the manager.

Is it a chain of garages or an independent?

Name and shame so others don't make the mistake of trusting these guys with their cars...

I was at a garage once, wifes car was being MOT'd.

I Waited as i didnt have any way to get home or go anywhere... As i watched them deal with my car i saw one of the lads who was working on a second car fall over with an exhaust in his hands and make a large scratch in a parked car outside.

he looked at it.. Rubbed it and then walked off....
The Car owner came back to collect said car, asked why there was a massive scratch and slight dent and was told by the garage owner who KNEW what happened that some prat walked past and kicked it....

Did you step in and tell him the true story?

Does a stranger doing it while it was in the garage's care absolve them of responsibility anyway?
They still had the wifes car... so i didn't say anything in case they decided to kick mine for fun...

Although they were there arguing about it after i left so who knows what happened

You wernt there.... They were arguing over blame and all that. The CCTV was facing it all anyway, i have no doubt that he won the argument as it was on the garages premises..
So instead of helping out the other customer avoid what could turn out to be protracted civil action over a costly respray bill you just wandered off to enjoy the rest of your day...

What garage do you use? I'd rather avoid it for both the mechanics and the other customers.

Oh i never went back... Was AMG in hinckley

When I dropped my Fiesta ST3 in to fix a small alignment issue with the rear bumper from factory at the dealers, some scratches appeared that were not there prior. They look like they were some sort of debris in sponge or something from cleaning

to be fair they took responsibility straight away and are fixing it today.
