Hello all,

Im looking for a quick upgrade for my 290 (to stop the 95'C throttle). Can anyone recommend a widely available aftermarket cooler ?

I was looking at the R9 290 Vapour-x but couldn't justify the hassle of selling this one ;)

most of the aftermarket coolers are the same.

The peter 2 and the Morpheus are both pretty good. RJK tested the morpheus on his 290x before release had no complaints about it says it stopped the throttling.

Ohh the Raijintek Morpheus looks like a good deal with all of the needed RAM / VRM heat-sinks as well :D (goes review hunting)

Tom's point is if you leave the temp target at 95c but set the max allowed fan speed to 100% the card will remain quieter without throttling than any other setup for a reference card. It won't get anywhere near 100% fan speed that's for sure. :p

Sheesh, any more than 50% and I wanna jump through the window!!! I do have 2 though :p

I had three running in a rackmount mining rig in an air conditioned server room, with stock fan profiles they never went over 76c, one day I decided to set 100% speed for a lol, they drowned out a Powervault 122T dual SDLT unit, they drowned out the air con, they drowned out a bunch of DL380 and DL320's and they drowned out the industrial fans in the roof of the rack cab lol.

Yeah my bottom card only hits 45%. Not too bad.

Humm good point (i forgot that the MAX allowed fan speed was adjustable) that should work for the time being.

TBH iv settled on getting a NZXT KRAKEN (pay day impulse buy FTW).... but whenever i'm ready to order the VRM heat-sink pack is out of stock :P (happened twice now ;) )

What AIO cooler will you be using though?

We are waiting on vrm heatsinks the manufacturer eol'd it despite it being so successful we have suggested to a couple of other manufacturers that some slack could be picked up here. Rajintek were one of these as they make them already.

IMO these sets of smaller heat-sinks are extremely useful
