Hi guys, a friend of mine (who is a girl) got given a quote to fit sat nav into her Scirocco. I'm just trying to find out if it's a good deal, which unit is the better one to go for and if anyone has dealt with the company before:

Thank you for your enquiry.

We can install the latest LED version of original Volkswagen RNS-510 Navigation system into your Scirocco for £1,295.00 including mobile installation, VAT and 3 year warranty.
Also included in the price is the latest 2014 (V10) maps and our exclusive Safety & Speed Camera Software which displays speed cameras on the map throughout the UK and Europe.
The DAB version of the RNS-510 is also now available at £1,695.00.

We can also add the integrated Universal Bluetooth kit for £575.00 all inclusive.
If you have both items at the same time, we can offer a price reduction of £95 bringing the total to £1,775.00 or £2,175 for the DAB version.
Furthermore, you can trade in your current radio for £50-£250 depending on the model and condition and can save a further £120 if you can come to us to have the system installed.

Another choice is the RNS-310 is £795.00.

Alternatively, you can have an RNS-315 which is like an RNS-310 but has built in Bluetooth and costs £1,195.00 all inclusive. You can also add DAB for an additional £300.

We can also add the OEM VW Rear View Camera for £795 and Power Folding Mirrors for £1,195 including VAT and 3 year warranty.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further information or to proceed with a booking.

If its a brand new RNS510 then that price looks about right. I wouldn't bother with a brand new unit personally. You can get used units off ebay for about £500 with the DAB version costing slightly more and as long as they are from a decent seller and come with a code they will be ok. VW fitted an RNS510 supplied by me in to my car and charged me 1 hours labor.

Id have an RNS510 over an aftermatket satnav anyday. It isnt simply NAV, it adds a hard drive for music, an SD card slot and makes the dash look far more modern.

In seriousness, is having a built-in sat nav worth £1300? From memory on my Golf the upgrade to the NAV was £400-500~. I didn't even think that was worth it so didn't take it.

I would probs buy a used unit off ebay and find a guide online to fit myself - can't be that difficult surely?

Power Folding Mirrors for £1,195

Those prices all seem a bit excessive to me, when there are plenty of options on eBay for less than £500-600 and, from what I understand, installation isn't too difficult. Even adding the RNS510 and DAB as an optional extra to a new Scirocco only shows as £1100 on VW's website.

Ok that's good to know, I'll have a look on some other websites too. Told her to steer clear of the power mirrors and reversing camera at that price.

Ignoring the urge to make sexist jokes(!) are you or anyone she knows not able to help? Or does she live many moons away?

She lives quite far from me (speaking to her on Lync at work) and I don't think she knows anyone else who's into cars/willing to help.

Ah ok. In that case I would try to see if there's any other companies she can get quotes from and see which comes out best, also look to see if there's any reviews for these places online too.

I had the RNS-510 fitted in my MK5 Golf by the same company although I'm sure it cost less and had the Bluetooth/hands free kit installed the same time. The 510 is a great unit - media player with hard disk - so not just a sat nav. It also then allows you to add the other bits such as parking cameras, tv, etc.

It was a convenient and hassle free way to have it fitted as they come to your home. If I was doing it now though (knowing a bit more about the parts & options), I would have bought the parts either new or used and fitted/programmed myself or asked one of the members on the gti site to do it. There are several on there who know all about then and would be a fair bit cheaper.
