I've just been sat in work and watched a group of people build up at the end of the street, all there with phones out recording laughing and joking. I went over to see what was going on and saw that there was a girl stood on the top of the car park behind our shop ready to jump.

One or two were joking about how they had a front row seat and that this girl was just after attention, by the time I got back to the shop there was a big gasp outside as this poor girl has jumped.

I haven't heard much since then but I can't see anybody surviving that kind off fall :(

I've already had people coming into the store playing videos and sharing it all over Facebook and stuff, I can't believe the lack or respect some people have, I can't imagine how I would feel if that was a loved one of mine and people were plastering it all over their social media.

It's just so disappointing that this kind if stuff happens after something so tragic. My thoughts are with that person's friends and family.

A few people were rushing towards the car park, and I think there were some security guards up there trying to talk her down, I think she was only there a matter of minutes.

Dam shame that some people would consider ending their life. It's understanding in some cases but dam, I wish there wasnt a need.

I hope this girl finds the peace she was looking for.

You sound surprised

I work in the education sector at the minute, you have no idea mate

social media zombies spring to mind

Yeah I agree, disgusting, but not suprising in todays day and age. especially after the story of that kid getting beaten by several people and filmed for putting up on YT

You did call 999 right or were you also a bystander?

I was involved in an altercation in Ibiza (Bora Bora strip) couple years ago. Two of my mates were stabbed and cut up pretty bad, me and another friend were tending to our two mates, one each, trying to stop the bleeding, keeping them calm etc. Anyone who has been there knows how busy it is. Did anyone help? Like ****. Everyone stood there phones out recording, some even laughing.

Gave up on most of humanity that day.

I generally find most people, when it comes down to it, are horrific, evil ****s at their core. A good 60% of the human race is a nasty, selfish piece of work.
It's a very well documented behaviour.

An interesting article on an element of it.

"Police and firefighters are well aware of this tendency for crowds to gather and taunt, and this is why they tape off potential suicide scenes and get the crowd out of shouting distance. The risk of a spontaneous cheering section goading a person into killing themselves is high when people in a group feel anonymous and are annoyed or angry. It only takes one person to get the crowd going. Those are the three ingredients – anonymity, group size and arousal. If you lose your sense of self, feel the power of a crowd and then get slammed by a powerful cue from the environment – your individuality may evaporate."

It's all the kids nowadays, didn't happen in my day.:rolleyes::rolleyes: It's called the bystander effect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect
Indeed, this is another aspect - more-so as to why so few actually try to help.

I do believe the viewing of these kind of situations via a camera phone in part may disconnect people from the reality of the situation - viewing the world via a digital screen could have an impact on how somebody connects to the event in question I'd expect.

Indeed it's very interesting. I enjoyed doing that in Psychology.

OT: Very sad that she ended up jumping. :(

Unfortunatly I can't disagree with you - from my experience that 60% figure is probably about accurate for the percentage of the population who really are barely one step above primate.
