Filming in your area?

One of the most frustrating things here is when studios set up the whole filming rigs in a layby and everyone slows down to try and get a look at who is filming - it's like massive rubber-necking syndrome but without even an accident to justify it :p

A mate of mine built some of the sets for the first series at the old paint sheds at the docks and several metal friends have been extras in it since one of the stipulations of the type of extra they were looking for was "long hair and beards".

I take it being up round Armoy it's the Dark Hedges they were filming around?
Yep, the dark hedges. Also at ballintoy harbour and near torr head outside ballycastle.

The turned the whole of George Sq. in Glasgow into Philadelphia a few years back for World War Z. It was weird as they changed all the street signs, traffic lights and cars for US ones. It was even weirder seeing the film and going 'I'VE BEEN THERE'

Watched some filming of The Three Musketeers (1993), About Time (2013) and an episode of Doctor Who in Charlestown. Saw some of the cast of About Time because they took over the main hall of the gym I use and missed Matt Smith by minutes because I left the pub early, few mates had pictures taken with him.

My place of work has currently been taken over as the dressing room for a new series of Poldark for 8 weeks.

Loads of other films have had scenes shot in my town including Die Another Day (Eden Project), The Eagle Has Landed (Charlestown), Dracula (Carlyon Bay), Apocalypto (Carlyon Bay) and Alice in Wonderland (Charlestown).

The World's End was filmed near me and used one of my favourite pubs.

Please don't say The Cork :p

We ended up pretty much walking into the set of whatever Jason Statham is releasing next when in Vegas last year. Got stopped from crossing the street, had to be very quiet whilst some bad acting happened, and then were allowed to move again.

Remember visiting a Castle in Wales as a kid and inadvertently running through a set for something or other. It was period obviously and looked pretty amazing, they weren't filming at that specific moment but I think they had no problem letting us walk through the set.

top tip:
put on a North Face jacket, and simply walk onto the set. simple :) a walky-talky with a red stripe of tape on it in your hand and some papers in the other will seal the deal.

most sets I've been on (that I'm meant to be on) I've just walked onto with hardly any trouble; There's new people on a production all the time who the regulars don't recognise and they usually have to just walk on.

As for filming near to where I live, yes, but not a feature film, just a TV commercial that was shot on my street. It was our production and our producer liked the look of my street to film on. 2 Days of twitching curtains! kept the neighbors entertained.

Very very frequently..

I was watching Gary Linker being filmed in the latest Walkers ad just under my office is.. The one where he's holding the pigs.

Then there's a few car add.. One where the guy trying to pull his chained bike from a post shows my office window.

There was also a docu-film about a dirty bomb in London. Most of the filming was again in same place.. bodies everywhere.

Luther and James Bond where others:)

I'm in Appold, St London..Not sure why this area attracts so much TV filming.. It's the City but technically it's Hackney so I guess it's cheaper for permits.

I guess one question is why Film/Tv Crews think they have the right to shut off access to certain areas?

Because they pay to do so. That's what they're talking about when they say the filming of a movie or a TV series has brought X amount of money into the local economy. They could do this in the US. But it's cheaper in some cases to pack production up and move it to Scotland and turn Scotland into America for filming World War Z (as katinacooker mentioned), than it would be to try procuring all the paper work and paying the money to film in the US.

And there's a mountain of paperwork relating to copyright law, employment law, union law, and release clauses for everyone involved that the last thing they need is some randomer walking through the middle of a several hundred thousand dollar shot, that's not being directed, not being paid, not in the union, hasn't signed a release form, et cetera.

Plus, our film industry is actually pretty damn good and those involved in it highly sought after for their workmanship and technical ability.

They might pay someone, but they don't pay everyone they inconvenience.

It doesn't sound to me like people inconvenienced in this thread have been paid for having access to certain areas shut off.

I don't see what that has to do with this. They're talented and sought after so should be able to do what they want?

They may pay for some things but they certainly don't compensate those who are disrupted. I was given no opportunity to object to the hassle I had. All I got at the end of the day was the offer of two bottles of cheap wine and a funny look from the guy when I told him where he could stuff them.

My experience mirrors a lot of folk I've spoken to. A little use of please and thank you and a willingness to tidy up after themselves would go a long way to improving relations with the locals. Its a shame most film crews think they're above that...

Funnily enough it looks like they are filming the Halo series down here in Belfast.

That and theirs a lot of Game Of Thrones people about, got on a drinking night with some production people.

Sacha Baron Cohen been filming his current project near me in Grimsby recently. Called...'Grimsby'.

Looking forward to being portrayed in a glorious light :-)

Don't live very far from Pinewood, so tend to see bits going on. Work a lot at leavesden studios.

Uxbridge tends to get filmed in quite a lot aswell :)

We got a letter though the door a month before filming letting us know that they required a clear street and would using a wind machine at certain times.
The council got paid but nobody else got anything as far as I know.

They filmed some of Sherlock Holmes in my hometown when I was visiting my parents. I did wonder why town was so quiet on a Saturday afternoon, turns out everyone else was at the train station museum place gawping.
