Recently went to Poland and visited Auschwitz 1 and 2, Birkenau. Wasn't going to go on the trip there but decided last minute to go.

Blimey, what an experience! Totally harrowing.

Its a week since i came back and still it is on my mind.

Anyone else been there?

I didnt take any pics as i didnt feel right to do so. There were thousands of people visiting both camps. We were all shocked by the experience.

RIP all those who died there

Yeah, I went there at the start of May while on a stag do believe it or not.

Agree, amazing experience and great to see - but for all the wrong reasons if you know what I mean. I took a few pics but most of the time just wandered round in silence listening to our tour guide.

Have you seen Schindler's List? Recently watched that after the guide mentioned it. Amazing film, definitely top 5.

I didnt want to go but glad i went in the end. It was good to keep the memories of those who were murdered etc alive. To remember them.

This might be a weird thing to say but me and Mrs Dimple didn't really get any empathy with what had happened because we visited on a beautiful summers day.
They should only open Auschwitz in the cold weather, make you wear thin rags and nothing on your feet and you might get some idea of what it might have been like.

it was actually one of the photos on wikipedia which did it for me. Not sure if it's still there.

There was a photo taken of a family, it showed a little boy and girl stood waiting to go into the gas chambers. They were the same age as my children, and looked very similar.

There are no words to describe it

Its not somewhere I ever wish to visit. I think what happened there is ultimately beyond comprehension and understanding, and in some ways feel that my walking through the gates is almost disrespectful in itself.

All my own position of course.
