Full spec can be seen from my project log here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18603290

The main components are:

i7-4770K Retail
Sapphire Toxic R9 280X 3GB
ASUS Maximus VII Hero Z97

Before I say, I have a hunch the problem is something to do with the onboard graphics of the i7, in the BIOS I set primary graphics to PCI-E but still not working.

Anyway the problem is I downloaded the latest CCC for Windows 8 x64 and when I extract/install the software I get a critical error saying the Installer failed because of the package or something.

So I think it is stuck using the Onboard graphics and maybe it cannot detect the R9 280X?

That is my hunch but maybe you guys can assist more better.

Cheers

Disable Intel GPU in the BIOS?

Not exactly sure, I changed primary graphics from Auto to PCI-E?

Still finding my way around the BIOS to be honest as there is tons of stuff!

Also are you using a fresh install of Windows?

Clean install on a new Samsung SSD.

The error is:

Maybe a silly one but you do have your monitor plugged into one of the outputs on the back of the 280X and not on the back of the motherboard panel?

Well I cannot find such a option other than the one I mentioned.

But, it keeps reverting to Auto for the Primary Graphics and the description for Auto says something along the lines of if a PCI-E is detected this will be the primary graphics, otherwise the onboard would be used.

Maybe the card is not recognised? It lights up and the fans are moving.

Yup, tried HDMI from the Graphics card and also DVI, only DVI to the motherboard works (not even hdmi).

Would that stop the drivers installing?

Also, I take it the GPU is plugged into the correct PCIe lane? As per the manual? (speaking of manuals, it should tell you were to the onboard gpu option is located)

Also is your 280X showing up in the BIOS?

1. I am unsure, I think it progresses past the hardware check so I assume it is there.

2. It is in the first PCI-E at the top, I will look now but there are so many pages might take forever to find it :p

3. Not sure, will take another look...

you need the latest net framework 4 windows drivers aswell, could be that

Good idea as I have not done this yet!

Have you installed all the motherboard drivers first, if not that could affect it? I normally install the GPU drivers last on a fresh windows install :)

umm well I normally do it first :D

I should do the motherboard drivers as I have not done it yet, maybe the BIOS needs updating too?

In any case the BIOS reports nothing for Graphics Card information

with the gpu installed and monitor cable connected to gpu (hdmi/dvi/display port ect)

can you get into windows and see it on screen? if so the gpu is working you just need to install gpu drivers for it

board should auto detect gpu/onboard if gpu is installed just remember to move the display cable from the mb to the gpu

No signal to monitor at all when I connect directly to the graphics card, only single I can get is from DVI Monitor to DVI Motherboard

be sure to flash to latest motherboard bios

might get hdmi working then

not sure why ccc isn't installing I think it installs net framework 4 for you but cant remember now,if not google it and download/install it then try installing ccc

EDIT seems like its not detecting gpu if no signal at all,try latest mb bios (theres also a dual bios switch on those cards, might be worth trying the other bios position)

You should be getting a video signal from the GPU even without any drivers installed. If you have your monitor connected to the mobo then you are using the iGPU of the 4770k.

Make sure you have the latest motherboard bios and that the card is seated properly with both 8 pin power connectors plugged in securely.

Good shout wazza, forgot those cards have dual bios :)

Also, it'd be worth using the optimized defaults in the motherboard bios as well, after its updated to the latest :)
